Counter measures
-
Hi to everyone.
Its just a question id like to ask on counter measures…
Does the actual use of counter measures chaff, flares and jamming, manoeuvring spoof the missiles or is it written into the (BMS) programming that sometimes they miss or fail to detonate even when within the lethal range of an aircraft?
This is just a genuine inquiry of a well crafted simulation as I think the Sams bring a lot of excitement to any combat mission and it feels very good to defeat the missile threat, get home and land safely.
For anyone that cares to answer the question… Many thanks in advance. hutch.

Yep all the counter measures work - depends on the rather dynamic situation.

I’d say Flares work very well but not sure if Chaffs works well. Modern pulse-doppler radar can recognize decoys. I’ve never really seen the effects of chaff; however, I have simultaneously used chaffs with abrasive maneuvering and that seems to work with or without chaffs.

Sorry, currently they are not…
ARHs are currently immune to chaff because of likely code bug - I have tested and proved comparing to FF4 - and even if they work you have to drop so many that makes literally only defeatable for player the ARH by beam + ground clutter + 20-30 chaff within 1-2 sec as long as the distance is at least 3.5 nm between target and missile. At least since the RP5 are in code distance modifier for missiles based on target distance, you can check in RP5 manual. Accoring to my tests they are still valid.
Some IR AAM has so high flare chance that they can be considered as immune. RPM never was higer than 90-92% and this was only AIM-9M, AIM-9X has - as I can remeber - 4 times smaller chaff chance value.
I have to say one of the weakes feautres of Falcon the totally “strange” modeling values. I have better word than strange but would be unpolite to use it…

They work okay for me

There was a lengthy discussion on chaff and flares already. Molny is correct. While chaff and flare tactics (during employment and maneuvering your jet) has little chance of success, a small chance is better than none. Use them, but never count on them.
