Cycle gun sight modes - BMS command
-
Which BMS command can be called (if any) to cycle the gun sight modes (e.g. EEGS -> SNAP -> LCOS) when in dogfight mode?
I read a post in these forums that stated “…The same HOTAS button that cycles CCRP/CCIP/DTOS changes GUN symbology in Dogfight mode; the CCIP/DTOS/CCRP rotary is controlled hands on by the NWS MSL STP button…” However, this did not cycle my gun sight when in dogfight mode. I also looked in my configuration to see which BMS command controls this functionality, but I could not identify anything.
I would like to cycle my gun sights via a button press on my HOTAS rather than having to press a button on the MFD. Is this possible?

You have to be on the SMS page in AG Mode, then select guns. On that SMS page on of the OSB’s is for the gun sight mode cycle. Should be OSB 1 or OSB 2, iirc.
Edit:
Sorry. Getting old. Forgot the ‘read then post’ rule.

Look for Ckpit FCC submodes.

believe you have to map the MFD key to your HOTAS.

This is exactly it. I bound SimFCCSubModeStep to the same button as SimMissileStep so now I get gun sight stepping in AA modes and bomb delivery mode stepping in AG, all on the same button.
Thanks for tip!

So in AA you get gun sight stepping, but trade-off missile stepping?

No, you still have missile stepping and NWS, but you get gun sight stepping in addition when you are in an AA mode. A pretty sweet deal!
Edit: my initial claims may be premature. When I am referring to missile stepping, I am referring to cycling between CCIP/CCRP/DTOS. To tell you the truth, I am not sure what AA missile stepping even does…I never use it, but perhaps I should? You possibly do lose missile stepping when in AA mode. Something for me to research further.

In AA Missile Step will step to the next weapon station for the same missile. If held, it will step from one missile type to the next (for example from AIM-9X to AIM-120). It’s a nice feature and, iirc, works in both AA and DF Override master modes.
What I wonder is if that functionality remains in AA Master Mode when using SimFCCSubModeStep. Then, also, in Dogfight override, does it then substitute Gun Sight cycle for Missile cycle?

I just verified that the AA missile stepping gets overridden if you follow my original instructions. And I 100% agree that it is useful. My fallback plan is to set SimFCCSubModeStep is a shifted state so that I keep the normal missile stepping functions untouched, but still get gun sight stepping.
Awesome feedback, guys, I learned quite a bit from this little exchange! Thanks!
