Low Altitude camera
-
Good Day, All,
I would appreciate some feedback on my first experience using the Low Altitude Camera on the Viper.
I was flying a BDA against an airfield that was pretty shot up. On the Viper the camera was mounted, confirmed on the loadout page in UI.
There was one structure at the field that was still there, and I created a target waypoint for that( as my secondary target),and I had a Mav to send the love. Here’s what happened…
At Fence In I checked the camera weapons MFD page and didn’t get any fault warnings, and in the upper left of the MFD (osb 20) there was a number that was counting. Anyway, approaching the field I selected my secondary target waypoint, and performed my Mav attack. I went back to the airfield waypoint and got it on the TGP. Master Arm was still on. At that point I got a little busy with a Mig-29 RWR signal, but was able to overfly the field , wings level, and at the briefed 12k altitude. Right after I turned cold and re selected the airfield waypoint with the bright idea (I thought) of making sure I got pics.
Anyway, I flew back to base, only to get a “Mission failed:no pics were taken”
Huh?
The only thing I can think of is, thanks to my buddy the Mig, I may not have hit the pickle button over the field. Is that required? The other thing I wonder about is-they call it a “low altitude camera” but they brief me to fly at 12 k?? -
You must pickle and hold… you will hear the frames being taken. Also, you don’t use TGP, use the HUD to sight the camera.
