      Hi,

I have watched many videos on Youtibe and am amazed at the casualness of some of them. Some guys say that you don’t need to do this or that or airspeed doens’t matter. Well being a pilot myself, there’s a reason for doing things by the book. First is safety, second is preventing damage to the aircraft or crashing. The aircraft has an operational envelope that it has to be flown in, and the SOP’s are there for a purpose. So guys if you are going to make a training video, please use the SOP’s and do the same thing for your own flying.

?? You think it’s bad that they make video’s that aren’t in accordance with SOP’s?? There are some vids that are pretty good, just a matter of sifting through a lot of stuff and finding them!

Check out some of the third party theaters and the modifications that have been done to missile ranges, bomb attributes, aircraft abilities, chaff, flare, etc. the list goes on, terrain tiles that circumvent the code, entire theaters with no water albeit the ocean, no bridges, hell, the .thr and the .mea files are no longer in play due to the cheats instituted on the terrain tiles, units can move virtually anywhere without cost!!! Not all theaters, there are groups that adhere to the code, like Israel and the base Korea and a few others!! You’ll also find theater tutorial videos that are done in the nature of the videos your talking about!! It’s a free for all any longer……

I feel for ya, but your wasting your time…

C9, not entirely sure what you’re trying to say?

It’s true that there are a some bad BMS tutorial video’s out there, not sure if some people even know what SOP stand for or what they are… But in this world everybody has a right to go and make/publish a video.

Now… that also means you have the power to change all that:D Downvote the bad ones, upvote the good ones, or if you have anything to add make some yourself. There are some really good ones out there.

Having said that, there are instances where airspeed doesn’t matter of course, such as AoA flying. Furthermore, the FLCS takes care of your flight envelope, you’re not actually talking directly to the control surfaces… If you want to fly with an asymmetric loadout and do aerobatics, then you might want to study the limits of the FLCS, otherwise, I wouldn’t really bother unless you would like to know.

Maybe it’s helpful if you link which video you are talking about.

            @TwanV:

C9, not entirely sure what you’re trying to say?

I’m quite sure just about everybody knows what SOP stands for. It’s referred to all over this forum. If they don’t, then they’re not going by the SOP…HAHA, joke of course!

My point is, it is impossible to stop or ask people to stop doing something in a certain way, whether it’s making video’s in a certain fashion or by SOP or anything else as the OP has.

They’re going to make the video’s the way they want to, just like making theaters some do it the correct way and other are circumventing the code!! Thus my reference of it being a free for all.

I’m not saying all the video’s are bad or incorrect, or good or totally correct.

Without seeing or watching specifically what the OP is referring to, it’s impossible to know exactly what he’s talking about. There’s many different SOP’s for different situations.

I was answering in general, as he asked in a general manner. That’s all.

I have to agree with C9. Since this is a sim and not RL people are free to do anything they want. Also, because the majority of people here aren’t real pilots things like SOPs and exact procedure are most likely going to go by the wayside. I’m not saying people are breaking SOPs because they can but because it is a sim and a persons safety is never really on the line and sometimes following full procedure takes time that not everyone has to devote to the flying. Not to mention there are many things implemented in BMS that are mostly eye candy and don’t need to be done to be successful. If you want videos that are very SOP oriented look for ones done by VFWs or better yet look into joining a VFW. Can’t get a more realistic experience than that.

Sounds good. Where can we find your videos?

I haven’t posted any videos as I’m just starting to get into Falcon 4. Once I get into it in a big way then I might do some videos. I guess the RL pilot and instructor in me comes out in a very realistic sim. My apologies if I have offended anyone. I have seen some good videos by VFW’s, unfortunately not enough of them on Youtube.

The Venn diagram of the kind of people that want to get details exact and the kind that want to be YouTube circles has a very tiny overlap. Such is life and freedom of expression.

I don’t mind the types that say “YOLO, Imma do this landing at 200 knots. Whatevvs” Because that’s honest about not being correct just good enough to the lulz. The ones that bug me are the videos that proclaim expertise and can’t even get the names of the items right. Then you get a crowd that holds nonsense in high esteem and struggle with half wrong info living lives of frustrated ignorance. That bugs me almost enough to do something about it.

I too am in that category of it being only almost annoying enough to do something about… For whatever the faults I note in someone else’s video, they at least went to the effort to make one. Its not all that easy to make a video that is both accurate and accessible - and making it look professional is a world of effort. More than once Ive started making a tutorial video and then rediscovered the difficulty of making it look good.

As far as requesting everyone fly by the SOPs, well, the first question would be, which ones? There are many different SOPs, a great deal of them contradictory, many of them not public or not easily accessible. Even assuming you meant to refer only to the procedures promulgated in the TOs and AFIs, and not to the SOPs, that still presumes you want people to follow USAF practice, when there exist other operators who do not follow USAF practice.

The second question sort of follows on from the first, though. If the USAF practice isnt the only way to do it, why limit yourself to that specific way? If you want to fly casual, thats your call. You cant just dictate to the community that they all use the sim the way you want them to.

If you want to fly with like minded people, and follow a particular practice in your group, you can invite people to fly a particular way, lead by example, and explain the reasoning, teach the theory of flying by your standards. Thats fine. You will never get everyone to fly a specific way though - and thats fine, too. Its a simulator of an aircraft, not an airforce.

You can make your own tutorial video and upload to youtube.

I am interested in but only knew quite a few documents about F-16 Training Procedures. If you could make a video to enlight USAF SOP for BMS players I’d be glad to learn and follow them.

That would be a fairly long video, I think…! Plus, each squadron has their own set of ‘standards’. You have the rules laid out in Air Force Instructions, and without a waiver, those rules apply to every air force pilot. But then you also have TTPs laid out which explain ways to achieve specific results, and you have internal squadron standards, which may vary from sqn to sqn.

There are quite a few documents on it. Explaining all of the details would be less a training video, and more a syllabus!

We do SOP’s in accordance with Basic Employment Manual.
                            SOP i think is essential.
