UI Map resolution not good enough for WP planning
-
How can I plan the right WP on the UI Map without terrain high, obstructions and so on ?
-
In-game, the map shows terrain by its colour.
Blue = water
Green = low terrain
Light brown = medium high terrain
White = very high terrainOn top of that, the large blue numbers are the minimum safe altitudes, which are highest elevation in that segment +1000ft.
You can also use recon.
If that’s not enough, you can sort of do it outside of BMS, but it’s a lot of work…
With the newest Tacview, you have a theater map overlay. If you set the terrain to Falcon, you get a 3D scenery that’s fairly accurate (not 1:1 AFAIK), which you can use to see where best to set your WP.

Recon the area.

Thanks Eagle-Eye for your explanation, but if I compare the real flight maps I would missing so much Informations.
Low flight attacks, are very hard without detailed Infos to avoid detection and more different by night or low visibility. -
ok, but I will miss altitude data if I fly visible and partly instrument related in bad weather or at night.

See the map, would be fine

you can’t use real maps with Falcon. They don’t match.
The projection is not the same and neither distance nor angle would matchI am a ground pounder, I’m a low flying guy and I never had any problem planning my missions with the current tool available
You don’t really need much precision on these map to find a mountain to hide behind.
What you see on the UI map is more than enough to plot your route to your target at low level
We have been doing this countless of times by Viperdrivers with multiple axis, pop with deconfliction 90/90 attacks and egressing the target always trying to put terrain between us and the air defensesHere’s one example:
Beside flying the route, you need to lead your turns to stay exactly on the white line, otherwise you’ll fly doglegs chasing your steerpoints and at low level that means flying over the mountains whereas your steerpoint line is in the valleys. So plotting a route isn’t all of it.
The real success comes when flying the jet and correctly staying in the valleys by using your senses … or sensorsI think you see a problem where there is none.

Thanks a lot for your statement, I accept as it is und fly with high risk for early detection and enjoy the BMS for years. Just only a wish for more reality, my be one day it will happen.

TPCs and JOGs are where its at…!
ONCs can go suck it.

Personally I believe training it’s the key: it’s a simulator? well I use it as it is: find “corridors” and became familiar with it, time after time more precise, more lower and faster. One corridor at time. When ready I can go for “real” ( campaign ).
