      Hello the cockpit experts ,

I would like to make a mini-cockpit for BMS: 2 MFD + ICP, and I would like to know the different possible solutions, so I need your help. The goal is to have something easily installable because this PC does not serve only BMS!

      ICP:

I hesitate between taking a G13 and configuring it to simulate ICP (and DED), or make / buy an ICP like vipergear. The last solution is expensive and I thought I read on this forum and others that finally despite 300€, the product is cheap and not solid.

      MFD:

I already bought 2 MFD Cougar to make the buttons, they should arrive shortly.

Regarding the extraction of MFDs, what are the different possible solutions? (screen (s) on the flight PC, screen on another PC, tablets …?). The goal being to put the 2 cougar on to make the buttons of course!

Thank you for your help, always precious

ViperGear ICP is top notch - buy with confidence that although expensive it is money well spent. I recommend it 100 percent.

I recommend using a spare 17-19" monitor that you can place in front of your main gaming monitor.

You can use velco to mount the 2 mfds to the screen, then use yame64 to resize & extract the gauges you need to the correct size.

Then get a cheap 10" / 7" android tablet and use komurcu’s excellent android app / mfde server software to “emulate” the ICP. You won’t get the proper tactile feedback like when you’re using a 300€ ICP, but on the upside you can switch to another app on the tablet to view charts, Navaids, checklists or whatever.

The whole setup is easily removable (just move the spare screen somewhere else when not in use, for instance I still use it as a 2nd monitor even with the 2mfds remaining attached to it) and takes all of 30 seconds to assemble for flying (I place the tablet on top of the mfd frames when I’m flying).

I’ve been thinking about getting a proper hardware ICP but for me it’s one step “too far” towards a proper cockpit and I cannot justify the expense. Just like you I’m also using the gaming rig for other stuff (mostly simracing), so a permanent setup for BMS only is sadly out of the question.

          All the best, Uwe

            thanks both for your answer

Could I simply export 2 MFD on a tablet and putting MFD cougar on it ?

What is the best app for that ?

            Thanks

If you want your MFDs on a tablet you’ll be limited to Komurcu’s app for android (don’t know about IOS alternatives). I think it’d be far easier though to use a single monitor for extraction using yame64.

I tried it works fine ! really simple to use.

The problem is that I won’t be able to use my cougar MFD as I can’t change the size of the MFD on tablet 😞

For the screen and extraction, I can’t achieve to run BMS in windowed, and I think there will be a problem with my 100hz gsync

A tablet is a touch device, right? No need for the MFD frames then, just use Komurcu’s Android app which will provide you with buttons on the tablet screen to tap.

Or, as I suggested, get a 2nd monitor and velcro your mfd frames to it.

                  Cheers, Uwe

You can get individual LCDs to mount behind cougar MFD panels. I use YAME64 to export the MFDs in this manner.

For the ICP, a G13 is a good choice. However, if you have a tablet, that can work as well. There are a couple Android apps, and I recently updated the old iFly BMS “app” for iPad so I could use my ancient iPad as a full ICP and critical switch panel. I wouldn’t buy a tablet explicitly for that, but it’s a decent option if you have one already.

Move the stick away from the distinctly Hornet-like centre to a more Falcon-like side and you’ll be dandy. Looks very nice!

PS - what are the mounts for the stick and throttle? They look very good too - could be interested by them myself…

Some cool setups here! Very similar to mine. I can also recommend vipergear’s ICP, it’s a bit of a gimmick as a numpad can suffice as well but not a moments regret of having one:

The screens are 8" LCD displays that don’t need to be very expense thanks to our chinese friends. These actually came on little stands too which was convenient. One day when I have the space I’ll find a way to deal with the overlap.

After flying with this setup for half a year now I’m pretty happy with having “just” MFD’s on separate screens. The RWR and DED are always pretty easily visible when looking outside so I could do without repeating them.

Concur, I started out with a g13 and a second monitor with mfd’s. Slowly progressed though.

                                      First

                                      Then

                                      Afterwards

                                      Now
