BMS 4.33 U1 Setup Issue
-
I downloaded 4.33 U1 compress file and was able to unzip it. I clicked on Setup in the file and get this message. "The registry points to a folder that does not contain a valid Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 install. Please restore……(HKLM\SOFTWARE|Benchmark Smis\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1) to be able to install the product again. Path: mC:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\ I have seen post about reinstall issue for 4.32, but not for 4.33 Thanks in advance

Hello there.
You need FIRST to have installed at your hard disk the Falcon 4.0 by MicroProse (released 1998 ) in order to be able to install the Falcon BMS 4.33 U1.
If you don’t have the original Falcon 4.0, you can buy it from GoG or Steam.

Good morning! I’m also new to BMS and am downloading the full installer (U1) and the incremental updates (U2-U5) now.
FWIW, I just purchased a copy of Falcon 4.0 from Steam and installed it.
In the FAQ below, there is a link to a ‘Full’ Installer w/ all the updates, but I’m not able to access it because my Account is not ‘activated’, though I went through the process of clicking the link in the email, logging out / back in, etc… Likewise with the U7 update link on the same page.
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?13227-Common-BMS-Update-Installation-QuestionsAlso, I’ve been looking around here but can’t seem to find the latest installation process. I’ve seen a couple of Youtube vids and RedIt articles, but am wondering if they may be a bit out of date? Can someone point me to the latest?
Thanks! Looking forward to Falcon BMS! It’s been a while since I’ve played a good Combat Flight Sim. BTW, any chance of BMS Apache Longbow 2.0?
Edit:
Nevermind - I was able to follow Crash Laobi’s video on YouTube and get all the basics installed, incl. the Baltic Campaign. You have to loop through a couple of extra times to apply U3-U5. FWIW, it seemed to work just fine w/ a Steam install of Falcon 4.0 in a custom directory on mydrive (w/ BMS also installed into a different directory on the
drive). I saw some people were having trouble w/ this in some previous posts here. Not sure I can post links yet, but here’s the YouTube video:

Yeah, Steam copy is fine. I don’t know where the idea otherwise came from.
I’m activated as can be and I get a forum permission denied on the link to the full installer.

In truth you don’t. It’s perfectly possible to download BMS and all updates, applying all updates to the installer first and then install BMS to the final version on the first attempt. The normal process of install then patch isn’t how BMS works. The patches for BMS aren’t for the sim but for the installer instead. Installer does both install new and patch old.
Download patch, apply patch to installer, run installer which can update existing BMS or install new. Once you have latest installer then you can install directly from nothing to latest version.

That all-in-one was for 4.32 not 4.33 – AFAIK
Also, U7 is not an update for the current version 4.33
Current Build of BMS starts with the 4.33 U1 base installer, and the updates 4.33 U2 through 4.33 U5 are for this version. There is presently no U6 for BMS 4.33
Be sure you are not looking at info pertaining to 4.32 when scanning around. You should not be able to download anything for 4.32 here, so simply install what you have.
If it helps, think of it like this: when any program installs, it creates a folder under Programs that no one should delete – when BMS installs, it creates one of these, but also a Setup folder wherever it was installed from, called Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup – never mess with this folder. When you execute the setup file from any update (U2-U5) it will need to install it’s package to that Setup folder, and from there, you run the “Setup” updater and IT installs the update to the BMS Program folder. Like Fred said, the benefit being you can give it all available patches first, and then just run it once to install BMS W/all updates instead of one at a time. In future, when another new update comes out, it will need access to the old BMS Setup folder in order to patch up the BMS Programs folder. Slightly different that other games or programs, but not impossible to understand.
Best wishes and good luck! Any questions, feel free to ask!

I have the same problem that smitty64 was talking about, deleted anything related to BMS/Benchmark sims/Falcon in the regedit, didn’t have any folder named Benchmark sims in there though.
restarted my computer and it still didn’t work.
I have the original Falcon 4.0 installed.
It is probably because I accidentally deleted the whole BMS folder and wasn’t able to uninstall it properly.
Anything else I can do? the only thing in my mind is reinstalling Windows.Edit: NVM, https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?10640-Reinstalling-Issue-quot-The-registry-entry-quot&p=380550&viewfull=1#post380550
That helped me, Thanks Shadow! -
Is it normal for the game files to still say U1 after installing all of the incremental updates? I’ve installed U1-U5 but the game folders and launcher still say Falcon BMS 4.33 U1.
