Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Hall sensor upgrade help
-
Sup peeps
Im planning on upgrading the joystick in title with hall sensors as the t16000 stick feels so cheap and terrible except for its Hall sensors that is, so im taking it upon myself to do this little project. Now my question is has anyone done it before? Some tips and help would be appreciated. Ive seen on some other sim forums that people have done it and it looks relatively easy.

Honest question, not trying to be negative, but are your actual sensors making trouble ? What are you looking to gain from this ?

Hall sensors are way more accurate than potentiometers

I wish you the best in your project. I think most people would be inclined to do this to nicer sticks, but the 3D Pro gets the job done - typically being under $50 USD for what it is arguably makes it the best value joystick ever.
I thought this was an interesting video:
Next point, I cannot offer any further input when it comes to hardware/software, but I am not inclined to think that Logitech and ThrustMaster hardware are just plug-and-play interchangeable. All of the internals are are matched for their respective sticks, and this likely covers the firmware as well.
…In my opinion, as weak as it may be, unless you feel confident enough to learn everything you need to learn to make a working Frankenstick, I’d not attempt to mix-and-match internals. If you are on a budget - it sounds like you are if you’re using a 3D Pro as the basis of a custom stick - be prepared to spend more money than you want in the pursuit of knowledge. Note that I’m not trying to sound condescending here - you have similar dilemmas with gunsmithing projects, and I do have some footing there.
My advice would instead be this: if you like the internals of the ThrustMaster stick, fabricate new hardware (buttons, grips, housings, etc.) for the externals. This bypasses the risk of messing up hardware-firmware-software type interfaces when (or if) you don’t have the computer science background to overcome the issue, or don’t want to get said background. In the meanwhile, use your 3D Pro as a standby until your TM is the way you want it.
Or just do what you want.
