FZ HSD - Bullseye readout bugged
-
Hey guys,
During our flight tonight, I noticed that the HSD cursor bullseye readout was entirely inaccurate.
What I did:
- Set up a North - South CAP, hot leg towards the south.
- At the end of the hot leg, I set the HSD to CEN and froze it. At this time, I was flying heading 176.
Later during the mission, I was coordinating an intercept with our neighbouring CAP, and noticed that my BE indications when using the HSD for reference were completely wrong.
This issue was not present using the FCR, and the HSD was showing the BE in its proper location. When things were calmer for a moment, I did a quick test and noticed this. It’s not easily visible, but to have a reference point and ensure that the cursor didn’t move, I placed it on the T-intersection of both steerpoint lines. During my turn, I deliberately kept my hand away from the throttle to make sure I did not accidentally move it.
As you can see, despite remaining in the exact same position, the BE readout changes from bearing 130 to bearing 181. Range changes slightly, but far less so. On heading 178, the BE readout is spot-on, as far as I can tell.
As such, it appears as if the BE readout accuracy is somehow directly related to the heading the HSD was frozen in and the heading you are currently flying, which I highly doubt should be the case. At least, I can’t imagine this being something that would occur IRL, as it would mean that a pilot cannot always trust a BE readout on a tool specifically made to assist in maintaining SA and whereabouts.
Cheers,
Eagle-Eye -
Also consider this picture:
I am heading north (008; 168 degrees off the heading I froze the HSD at), and when moving the cursor to a position southwest of the BE (roughly bearing 200), it is showing a position northwest (bearing 313 29) of BE. Looking at the FCR, that position should be roughly 30NM to my front.
Moving the cursor on the bugged IDM target seen on top of the HSD, it is indicated as being at 360 039, instead of approximately 210 39.

Already fixed (IIRC). To be checked next version.
Thank you for report!

Well, if you release today, I have some time available tonight.
