Unable to frag JSTARS and/or AWACS
-
I am into day 9 of the KTO RF campaign and I no longer have any JSTARS or AWACS flying missions for at least a day and a half. I am also unable to frag a JSTARS or AWACS myself as I always get a “Bad Timing” error message even when I advance the take off time by a couple of days.
I am sure that I have these assets still available. I have tried to have HQ tasks them, but no missions for JSTARS or AWACS have been tasked using HQ.
It’s not a show stopper as there is very little enemy airpower available or airborne at this point, but it would be nice to have an AWACS on station in order to alert me to any hostiles etc.
Thanks!

Yes Captain, this is a big issue in BMS. I have found one workaround. Try setting the mission up with training as the role. If the mission is generated, swap the station steerpoints to ELINT. It usually works. Let me know if it helps.

Thanks for the help. I tried your suggestion and it worked. Odd that if you set it up as a training mission, the AWACS/JSTARS is available but not if you try to task it as per it’s role.

You probably task them too close from enemy

Perhaps, but I think it’s something else.
These assets become non-fraggable, regardless of squadron strength, airbase state, distance, timing or anything else I’ve considered. Then you change the role to training and off you go.
Glad it worked CC.

I would be happy to have a repro case
Please provide saved cam file

Not active at the moment myself, but when I become so I will be happy to provide one if it happens. The issue, in my experience, is more likely to occur the longer the campaign lasts. Because my offline campaigns are over fairly quickly, I rarely see it.
However, in the online campaigns, especially Rolling Fire as it lasts longer than five days, it is fairly common.
I believe Captain Canada has this situation right now
Perhaps he would attach a save file?

I’m at work at the moment, shh don’t tell my boss! I will certainly upload my most current mission.cam file and/or my autosav.cam file.
I am currently playing RF offline and it is Day 9 of the campaign. My ground forces now control Wonsan and Pyongyang so I am hoping the war will soon be over, as I am now resolved to attacking shipyards and such!
Thanks!

The campaign would end (clock stops, another win in the logbook) if this occurs. So there must be something still waiting to be captured. Turn the Political map filter on and I suspect you’ll find a red dot in there somewhere.

According to your Autosave file, neither P’yong’yang or Wonsan are captured.
You have an US M1 BN on P’yongyang, but it hasn’t captured it, its set to capture P’yongyang Junction, there’s also a US Marine Brigade sitting on P’yongyang, but it can’t capture it. There are a few units in the N & E P’yongyang area, but haven’t captured anything.
In the Wonsan area, there is a ROK Engineer(M113) unit sitting at Songjong-ni Nuclear Plant, but it hasn’t captured it, otherwise there is no other US/ROK units in the area and nothing is captured in the Wonsan area!! There are other US Marine units NNW of Wonsan in the Ch’onnae-up area but haven’t captured anything.
You sure this is the correct file??
Edit: In game it shows they are captured though. I was able to frag both an E-3 and an E8 flight out of Fukouka Airbase!! There was also an E3 flight on patrol actively when I started the file. Possibly you are trying to frag the flight to far North out of their range??
At any rate, something is odd about this file?? Don’t have any more time today to look at it though.

I checked the map and South P’yongyang hasn’t been captured so I sent two divisions down that way to capture it.
I have included my latest .cam file here for you to look at. I think once I capture South P’yonyang, the campaign should be over.
What program are you using to view the .cam file? I have opened it in MC and VMT, and it does show that both P’yongyang and Wonsan are still occupied by DPRK but in game they are blue, so not sure what is going on.

Divisions and Brigades can’t/don’t capture anything. Only Battalions do. Divisions are virtual, don’t exist on map.(you may be reading the unit designations?)
Only Wonson and P’yongyang are required to win the campaign per the .tri(trigger file), so S. P’yongyang doesn’t matter.
I used both MC and Tacedit to view the file. I will check your newer file later tonight if I get the time.

Curious about the too close to the enemy. Is there a radius given somewhere for the support craft where they would flag “Too scared to fly!!” I’ve run into this as well trying to frag AWACS farther North as the campaign progresses.

Thanks for the clarification on what elements can capture a city. I used “division” as a generic term here when I should have use Battalion.
I want’ aware that South P’yongyang wasn’t required for the win, I guess I will take a look at the .tri file.thanks for your help.

This thread can be closed and the campaign has ended. The mission clock has stopped and according to another thread regarding this, the campaign is over. I checked my logbook and I have my first win!
There was nothing in the Intel screen updates about it nor any update info on the map screen. Once I had seen the clock stop, I remembered reading about how this signals a campaign has ended.
Thanks for all the help !
