      Hello all.
This might be a silly question, but I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere.

How do people fly as a human AWACS controller, and still use the IVC?

I know you can jump in the actuall E-3 Sentry and fly around and use the IVC there. but then you don’t have the map, and the AWACS tools and so on.
If you select the AWACS in the game but DON’T press fly…You’ll be able to use the map but not the IVC (Radio)
Is there anyway to be able to use both the map and be able to switch between different radio channels, without having to download and use a tool like F4AWACS?

      Thanks

      MIL

Stay in 2D, but you have to have BMS windowed, or the IVC on another screen. (not sure if that’ll work, only have a single monitor myself)

Unfortunately, IVC needs to be the active screen to recognize the F1 - F3 buttons and be able to transmit, so you can’t talk and adjust the view in BMS at the same time, which makes checking stuff, such as BE’s and altitudes a real PITA. After a while, you get used to it, though.

In IVC, you can select “Force Local Control” and type the frequencies you need yourself. Very important here is that you do not put the decimal so instead of 377.100, you’d type 377100 in the box and then press “Change Freq”.

Hmm, that sounds easy enough, Allthough I have repeatedly had problems with the F1 function it doesn’t seem to Work…
But if it is that easy then it should be do-able. I guess I’l just RTFM and try it out.

Thanks for the help Eagle-Eye…and TIGER TIGER TIGER!!! ROAR! 😄 ( RL GCI tiger myself 😄 )

          EDIT:
A friend and I are trying to test this now…When I have my IVC client up and running, I can’t seem to hear him or him me. But the Client says vol 0.0 but I can’t seem to change it??? Help please 😄

If you are both in 2D, you can have BMS as active screen and you can just use F1 and F2 to transmit through IVC. If one is in 3D, you need IVC as active screen. If you press F1, F2 or F3 then, you should see a “light” in the IVC Client screen when you’re transmitting.

Obviously, you need to make sure you’re both on the right frequency, as I explained before with the local control, but I guess you already knew that. 🙂

We just tested that IVC Works in-game when we are both in jet. NP

I can hear my friend both on UHF and VHF but for some reason I can’t transmit. I’m guessing this might be a key stroke thing. How can I check which keys are being used for the IVC client?
While in the AWACS I have tried both F1 and F1 +CTRL and ALT and SHIFT no luck. I have also tried to use mu UHF and VHF swith on my Cougar, with no luck.

Are you going in 3D, or staying in 2D? I get the feeling you’re going in 3D to pilot the E3, while you should be in 2D, because you obviously need to see the 2D map to provide picture information. There’s nothing you can do while piloting the AWACS…

For the IVC client, I’m fairly sure the only buttons you can use are F1 - F3, but as said before, it needs to be the active screen. Best way to ensure this, is click on it, then press F1, F2 or F3. The corresponding “button” should light up while pressing the button.

You can also use the Online Squadron Collection to get AWACs data outside of the game.

I’m NOT in pit…Thats for sure. We only did it to test that the IVC worked.
BUT when I se the Client window and push F1 I do not see any change in the IVC Client window at all.
I’m sure this is a ERROR 40 (This is what we call it when the error is 40cm from the keyboard…read MY MISTAKE 😄 )

I’m thinking it has something to do with the .key file I have loaded. or something else. Because it seems that the F1 key isn’t bound to the IVC when I’m windowsed. ( I tried to make sure I had the window selected by pressing it several times.

You guys know something, you BOCOWA just gave me an idea for a great suggestion. Why not have the E-3 playable in game with all the screens and tools? For example, you go into the E-3 Century at the start of a mission (E-3 is already “inflight”). You would then take command of the tasking orders during flight from that location with all the known mission data, flight routes and tools. Maybe one of the devs might post something about this. If it’s doable, it would be great!

An in-game AWACS feature like F22 Total Air War had/has would indeed be great. Maybe with 4.40? 😄

That would be pretty awesome, because as a pilot you would have to keep your mission crew alive 😄

But i’m still battling my comms problem. any ideas?

Hi, another exGCI here. Big problem here is that only TL of each flight appears in 2D screen. It is very easy to defy an human GCI with a wall or column formation.
As long as they don’t fix this (pretty difficult I heard) it’s a no go.
It’s like having invisible contacts all around. I was use to see everything!
                              Have fun!

Well,. back in Global Falcon days, I would fly with a few VP’s. IVC worked back then but was very grainy and not realistic. We would have a human AWAC player using TS. Again, not very realistic, but you would have the AWAC screen/tools available.

                                  WHAAAAT?

The next update is 4.40??? I though we would have to go through 4.33, 4.34, 4.35 ect. first!

Anyway, It might be a simple transfer back to the 2d AWAC screen when you jump into the E-3, but with IVC access. Seems simple enough, but I have often found that simple suggestions are not so simple.

                                    Hey Again.
I got it fixed. The reason it didn’t Work was partly because I had “FORCE LOCAL CONTROL” checked, which I read you shouldn’t and when I Started a game I hade IVC channel checked as well in-game, which resulted in the IVC crashing.
But it is now tested and Works.

                                    Thanks for all the help.

On page 58 on BMS manual it has a good explanation on how to adjust IVC client and make it work outside of BMS. just an example of something I do is create a specific shortcut on my desktop that will allow me to connect to IVC before entering BMS with a specific set of freq for both UHF and VHF and also it allows for me to be able to use the IVC without having BMS as the actuall active window as well. Once you read the info on Page 58 it will help you in what you should need to be able to AWACS easier. Hopes this helps if not let me know and I can try to explain it better.

I resume this topics because in my group we are using to have Human ATC/AWACS/JTAC but foe some of us it is not possible to use it (i’m one of them).
I state that when i’m in 3D everythings works well, that when i’m in ATC/AWACS/JTAC role i run Falcon in win mode, before i run IVC manually with admin permission, that the correct audio device in selected, that i select IVC win for to speak…
But i can hear the flights but they couldn’t hear me!!
If there is another JTAC in 2D he can hear me so i can hear 2D and 3D but only 2D user can hear me.

All players in 3D have the adjusted IVC.ini file that has this line correct? “outsider=all” (not outsider=seat as default, and the # tag removed in front of the line)?
Otherwise, once in 3D they won’t hear you.

Several of us worked with this for some time on FO and never did get it to work right. Seems you always had limited comms going one way or the other, regardless of the INI settings, selected a seat, didn’t select a seat, etc… But what you mention was the closest we came to something kind of working. One of the bigger problems was getting EVERYONE to modify their files.
