BMS 4.34 and 3rd Party development…IS DOOMED...according to recent news reports
-
AND HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF APPRECIATION TO THE BMS GODS!! :bowd:
Seriously though, what a fine piece of work they put out…BRAVO!!!(and I really mean it this time Duran)
Can’t thank the gents enough for FINALLY addressing the bloated F4 DB issue.
(.XML’s, hell even I can understand them….LOL)GREAT job M8’s and again BRAVO!!! (Jeez did I kiss your butt’s enough now……LOL)
One more kiss for the DB file’s…:yo: ……thank you!!! Now down to the nitty gritty for us, the lone wolf 3rd party Devs. and I WILL repeat myself AGAIN……sigh…1. Use the DB provided by the authors’, you cannot win any other way. CT #‘s have changed, obj centers have moved, Valid AC, Camp files etc., and so on and so on……sigh…Up to you to reconcile (Have I NOT stated this B4 over the last 18 years :???:)
2. USE THE TOOLS PROVIDED BY THE DEVS. They are giving you these tools for F’n FREE!!! (Hell I remember having to plead with some Dirty Rat back in the day just to get his latest version of a tool…LOL) Find them or get them, LEARN them and USE them in your developing.
3. MAKE SURE YOUR FILE STRUCTURE matches the current version’s structure. They still have given us some leniency in this and back in SP days’ that was one of my complaints BUT nowadays for that matter it is better to “Stay in the Box” and toe the line.
4. Utilize the new CODE they provide, i.e. ATC, DTC Carrier code etc…or exploit them like I’m about to do ….Heh Heh…(once I fix the ?? ?? CTD on exit from GUAM…LOL…been there B4 and know it’s dropping the heap o’chit cause I did something wrong)
5. Last, but not least, change one thing at a time……unless your a Rain-man, otherwise you will have no good point to return to…HAVE FUN!!! alway’s when Playing in the “Sandbox” My 2 pennys,

CT# has indeed changed because of a massive DB cleanup and in order to defrag it.
Unfortunately, it is a major pain for 3rd party dev (for us also believe me!) but be had no real alternative options if we want the work to be done correctly.
Some other CT# changes may again happen again in the future but much less. And now with the XML DB, it should be less painful especially if some dedicated tools comes to deal the XML DB.It is a pain but final goal is actually to make life easier in the futures … have to see it as an “investment” for future generations/projects.
EDIT: You may also expect BMS Editor enhancements in the incoming 3 - 4 weeks since it became the only main usable core tool.

I noticed a lot of file changes are dated, labeled, and signed!
Thank you Kolbe and others , (I just now noticed Kolbe)This was very very helpful! Now files I didn’t even know the function for, are explained right there on the top line.

demerThis is why I quit from 3rd party upgrade and modding. Every major release of BMS eradicates most of 3rd party efforts. I just waited until came a version which is enough good to me. It took 10 years from FF5.3 but it was worth it.
-
I would sure hope that ‘eradicates most 3rd party efforts’ is a vast exaggeration. I am glad there are still so many 3rd party contributors!
-
Molni and demer if that was the case there would be no theaters in falcon. No third party apps would be developed.
I know it’s hard and harsh, same and harder is for the bms team.
I also want to have everything on the plate but falcon reality is different and we know it.
I’m not saying stop complaining as they tend to be overwhelmed by the internal development as their list is endless but the community manages to keep it alive.
We should all keep pushing for more tools to make development easier.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T818A using Tapatalk

I wasn’t complaining……just stating the fact’s…LOL!!!
