Is there a way to change radio frequencies once you get in the aircraft? reason I ask is I can hear awacs, wingman, elements and the tower because I enter the UHF tower frequency into the data cartridge but I notice I do not hear any packages, be it my package or any other, do I need to enter a seperate VHF frequency or something in order to hear from packages? the cockpit radio on the left console does not allow frequencies to be entered, it just seems to turn the radio on or off, and its the same thing for the frequencies in the DED, I tried setting it to a broadcast frequency channel 14 according to the manual, I thought then I would hear everything but it didnt work, how do you tune in to hear packages?

If you cannot hear yourself speak say ask tower for winds (T-T-4) then either you are on the wrong frequency or radios are off, or volume is down. If you are setting up with your DUTC the open channel is CH 15 not 14. so set your DUTC to 15 for tower operations. If your radios are up Com 1 button takes UHF and com 2 VHF make sure the Freq are set in. Make sure when you load the DUTC that the radio is set to UFC not backup controls.

MIght depend on how you enter the jet. Just because you saved some preset or frequency on the data cartridge doesn’t mean the data cartridge is loaded in the jet. For Runway or Taxi entry, I believe the saved data cartridge is loaded when you are ‘dumped’ into the jet. For Ramp start, you must load the data cartridge yourself.

To answer (one of) your other question: Yes you can easily change frequencies or presets once you’re in the jet. To change a UHF preset/frequency, just push the big, round COM1 button on the ICP and then push in the preset number or frequency and then ENTER. Same process for VHF, except that is done from the COM2 button.

Also, another very important item …. you need to switch from Backup Radio to Up Front Controls. There is a switch on the left mid panel, near the fuel source and Batt switches that must be put on UFC.

If you are ramp starting and these kinds of details are causing problems, I suggest you refer to Red Dog’s Check Lists for Ramp Starting and use/adapt that for your use. That checklist will cover all the misc little knobs and switches that load data cartridges, set radios for use or otherwise prepare your jet for flight.

I don’t think you can listen to a specific package in BMS. You should be able to hear most aircraft, including from other flights within your package, but not from a specific package. I don’t think in BMS packages get their specific frequency. You just got to listen among the radio chatter for call signs withing your package AFAIK.

I think you can hear them on Guard channel. GD on the Audio 1 panel.

Most of the comm’s in Falcon are furbar from day1. Almost nothing is correct. 😞

There are many things to say, but one of them is that one should never heard the intra-flight comm’s (formation change, bingo fuel, … etc …) from other flights.

Yep … many many things polluting the SA and totally irrelevant for us.

It seems that originally, most of comm’s (or comm’s design) was most to provide a background ambiance rather that realistic and useful radio messages. 😞

… Maybe one day if we are luck enough to have someone motivated to re-write all that stuff.

With all this good advice I now can get good communications on the radios, I hope this information may be helpful to someone else also.
