      Hi,

What does wind indicator in the DED indicates :

1- Direction of the wind ?
2- Direction from where the wind come from ?

Searched the website and Dash-1 but found nothing about it.

      Thanks in advance !

Wind is usually expressed as what direction it comes from and it’s speed. That’s what’s in the DED and what ATC tells you.

So, if the DED/ATC says, ‘300 @ 12’, the wind is from 300 degrees at 12 knots. Landing at Kunsan, that’ll put you on RWY 36 with wind crossing from the left at about 60 degrees cross.

IRL wind direction is magnetic heading, so is runway heading.
Just a little bit of extra information. Does not affect BMS in any way I guess…

Actually, all bearings you use whilst in air is magnetic. True north is used during flight planning.

In areas with a lot of magnetic interference or high variation (e.g. close to the magnetic North Pole) it’s better to use True North, though. I believe runways in those parts of the world also have the True North-designator painted on them.

                Yes.

And “Thule” VOR which is giving you a true bearing instead of all other in the world giving you a mag bearing.

To summarize the answer to the original question, post #2 is correct:
“[email protected]” means wind is coming from 300degrees magnetic at a speed of 12kts.

All the other posts later by myself & everyone else is just to give more details, nice & good to know stuff…

It’s very difficult to have a thread with just 2 posts (Q and A). The Q must be clarified and the A must be refined, expanded and corrected. Then the corrections and expansions must, in their turn, be clarified and corrected. If there is enough interest, we will enter the phase of ‘is the wind in BMS like wind in RL’, to be followed soon by much hand-wringing on why the mechanics of the RL wind are so important and should be modeled better …. maybe in v4.33.

We do this mostly, I think, so the people who have an urge to say something (anything) have a reason to do so. Myself included of course.

Ask the seahorse community. They know everything! Who needs Amazon anyway.
