Fish's Voice Attack for BMS...
-
Hi all,
This profile for voice attack is light weight, with only 49 command lines covering more than 220 command inputs. Spoken instructions are broken into two commands, first calling the menu, then calling the action. Pilot is less prone to incorrect commands, since the menu is displayed on the screen. Additional direct commands can be added as required. Benefits from the use of a a modified menu.dat file for better accuracy and brevity, (included with the profile). A sound is played with each command, giving audible feedback that the command has been executed by VA. An excel sheet is also attached, with a full list of the game commands and the custom additions.UPDATE : V8 released, compatible with BMS 4.37.3

Great job. Compliments !

While I really like the two-stage approach and the modified menus that your profile uses, I wonder if it’s quick enough during critical situations like having to tell your wingie to attack one target and the element flight another one?
I really like the idea of providing audio feedback by playing a sound when a command has been recognized, also the custom commands to hide & display the pilot body seem very useful.
All the best,
Uwe

…………I wonder if it’s quick enough during critical situations like having to tell your wingie to attack one target and the element flight another one?..………
The response of VA surprisingly quick. Try calling the second part when you hear the feedback que from the first. Cant see a situation where its not quick enough, but your mileage might be different on this. An alternative, is to add those critical commands as additional single commands to the profile. There can’t be many. Then you have the best of both worlds.!!

Hi Fish,
I imported your VAC profile and now it seems like it’s missing a sound file (or is this part of the menu.dat file which I haven’t replaced yet?)
20:00:29 - Unable to play sound: [Stellen Sie sicher, dass eine Sounddatei am angegebenen Speicherort vorhanden ist.] (G:\bms\tools\voice_attack\Sounds\beeps\toggllil.mp3)
The message means that VAC is unable to find the referenced sound file. AFAIK I’m on the latest VAC version (1.7.7).
All the best,
Uwe

I found a similarly named file in BMS’s sound folder and converted it to mp3 using audacity. Now the file is found (no more complaints from VAC), but I can’t hear anything like a “confirmation beep” that the command has been understood (just trying vanilla VAC for now, not within BMS of course).
All the best, Uwe

Better keeping it told hush-hush and short, dear Uwe… it might be even classified, who knows
With best regards.
Gianni.

My Bad,
I omitted to include the sound file. I have rectified this, and the profile pack now contains the sound file, and a readme of where to put everything. Feel free to use your own mp3. file and just rename and put it in this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Sounds\beeps\ . this site looks good for button sounds https://www.soundjay.com/Profile updated also, and improved performance.

Hi Fish,
It looks like the actual VA profile file is missing in the .7z archive. Could you add it to the archive so I can download it? Thanks in advance! Great tutorial by the way!

Oops,
There now.
V2, improved performance, and two sound files. I think the loud one is best. -

Thanks for including the beeps. Voice Attack now complains about them not being a proper WAV file, even though the file name ends in mp3. No biggie though, I converted the mp3 to WAV using audacity and renamed the exported WAV file back to mp3.

Another thing I noted: I copied your menu.dat from the archive to the location specified in the readme, but my menus still are the stock BMS ones. In the movie I see your menu moved to the center of the screen while mine is still in the upper right default location.
I verified that the files are identical:
$ diff menu.dat /cygdrive/e/bms434/Data/Art/CkptArt/menu.dat
Uwe@Uwe-PC /cygdrive/f/00Downloads/bms/tools/speech_recognition/vac_profile_fish44
so this much is looking good… any idea what could be causing this?
All the best,
Uwe

……your menu moved to the center of the screen while mine is still in the upper right default location……
Hey Uwe,
Best use V2, note sound file name (and file source) has changed. Unless you use 1440x3440 resolution, you won’t see any difference in menu position. For quick check of menu.dat, check the file mod dates or open game, and check WING, COMBAT 2. Should show ‘jettison stores’ . Original has 'Drop stores;from the readme…….
VA Profile
To use the profile,
1. Put the sound file (beep.mp3) into the VA sound folder (generally C:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Sounds\beeps)
2. Import the profile into Voice Attack, OPEN VOICE ATTACK, ALT+I, then navigate to the BMS434-Profile.vap file.
3. Navigate to the …\BMS434\Data\Art\CkptArt\ folder, and backup the menu.dat file, then drop the one in from the profile.
4. If you want a louder sound (recommended), then rename the beepLoud.mp3 to beep.mp3V2 Updates.
–--------
Fixed a command in Item2.
Removed the 'Wait until sound completed, before other action", in most action commands to speed up the action.
Replaced the stock BMS sound with a custom sound (2 versions, normal and loud). -
Great idea with two commands…. I’ll keep using it for now.

Fish,
I don’t hear a beep and i get an error message in VA similar to the previous poster.
On my computer VA and the sound folder are located at D:\Programs\VoiceAttack\Sounds.
Similarly, Falcon BMS is located at D:\Programs\Falcon BMS\Falcon BMS 4.34\Data\Art\CkptArt.
Any suggestions for me to make an adjustment so that the sound will work as intended?
Thanks,
GC -
I just sorted my problem. I failed to add a subfolder called beeps before inserting the sound file.
On my computer, the sound file is now located at D:\Programs\VoiceAttack\Sounds\Beeps.
Note to self - Read and follow the README file more closely next time.
Thank you Fish for creating and sharing the profile.
