Cougar or Warthog which way to go
-
Long time ago I was an avid F4 pilot but now having had a break of quite a few years want to get back into F4 via BMS. I have a Cougar (which is extremly sloppy - one of the reasons I drifted away).
So the question is I suppose;
Do I upgrade the Cougar to a Force Sensor stick or should I just move to getting a newer version.
I know all the differences, it is not that I am looking for, but I don’t know whether going the Cougar route will just back me into a corner longer term particularly if longer term is related to other changes like OS or the like.
Still running XP and no real reason to change that yet if it is important.
Thoughts on best routes for the future?

WH throttle is missing an axis or two to be fully compatible with the F16 HOTAS.
On the other hand then feel of the Stick buttons is so different (way more that you can imagine) I can’t see myself using a cougar stick, ever!
IMHO, the best combo would be a cougar throttle with FCC stick using the WH handle.

x65f is force sensing out of the box, I prefer it over my unmodded Cougar, 3 years now with my x65f, no issues to report. Dunno if you can buy them anymore though, there have been replaced by the inferior x55.

Well, that depends on how much you want to spend and if it is for BMS alone. I assume it is for BMS alone. I have FSSB Cougar and TUSBA Cougar throttle and a stock Warthog for other aircraft.
Probably the best for BMS alone is a Warthog FSSB-R3 stick (you can buy the stick separate from the throttle) and TUSBA Cougar throttle. Since you have a Cougar around $1000
Most realistic stick (except the push button on the CMS) and most realistic throttle.Next I would say what I have. Since you have a Cougar about $600 Stick paddle is too small and pinky button is centered.
Next a Warthog HOTAS with FSSB-R3 nearly $1000
In this set up though, the throttle is unrealistic for BMS.Unmodded, Warthog over the Cougar.
If I were you, and BMS was the only consideration and money was no object, I’d go with the FSSB-R3 stick and the TUSBA Cougar throttle. My 2 cents.

What is the advantage of converting Cougar throttle to TUSBA over the original stick base connection??

Higher resolution and fewer spikes. Not a huge difference. The more expensive one has separate axes for throttle idle mil and AB, perhaps for future BMS versions.
Mostly TUSBA is for those who want to use the Warthog stick with the Cougar throttle.

Thanks guys,
From what I can gather X65 no longer available.
Had to google TUSBA
but this appears to give me another option to start off with.
Buy a Warthog stick on its own and utilise the old Cougar throttle via the TUSBA adaptor.Hadn’t appreciated that was possible.
Decisions decisions
Thanks again OldBadger
