SEQUENTIAL SWITCHING OF STEERPOINTS IN AUTO PILOT.
-
Having had a number of attempts at this I have come to the conclusion that the switching on of the auto pilot, (nice to see you cured the incessant climbing and diving issue well done) the sequential switching upon reaching a steer point fails to work.
So just to make absolutely clear of my actions, I assign Auto Pilot Left toggle down, Auto pilot right toggle up for level flight, press 4 on the ICP and then press SEQ on the pipper switch, this adds an A after the steerpoint showing auto switching is active, then click ret on the pipper and the diplay shows that Auto changing has indeed been enabled.
That bit works fine. Now there seems to be the actual call missing to proceed to the next steerpoint upon reaching the current one. The plane now just orbits the current steerpoint instead of automatically following its course of points as it should. Its always worked in the past, 2000 onwards, possibly a missed function to send the callback NextSteerPoint to the commands.
Always glad to help out where I can guys, your doing a great job.
-
Been a while since I last used the automatic next steerpoint functionality, and even longer in combination with autopilot, but IIRC, it’s a rather small area that activates the next steerpoint. Maybe the autopilot is unable to correct appropriately within the last 5NM-ish and fails to enter the trigger area?
Does it work when you fly manually?
-
No problems here, works fine. I routinely use this function in my flights.
IRL its supposed to auto switch to the next STPT within 2 miles of the current STPT, whereas in BMS IIRC it only does so when within a couple hundred feet.
-
And that from someone that cant work through a few firewalls lol.
Ive tried the dance 8 times now and every time it fails. it isnt a callback so it cant be missed out as a key press, its supposed to work, just doesnt on some machines, guess mines just too advanced for it. but it doesnt work on my other machines either or my server.
BW no offence intended dude but you spent a long time talkin to me, I dont waste peoples time on things that dont exist, im a programmer and time is one thing all of us dont have to waste. One computer is wrong its that computer, when its half of a community plus 6 different machines then its a flaw in the program.

Are you calling into question the veracity of my statement?

I apologise if my concerns for my inability to connect to the FO servers came across to you as a waste of your time. Ill try to be more careful about that in future.

and once again it works very well
there is no problems at all with the auto steerpoint of BMS - short of what Bw reported - which is correct.
Although there are some issues we are aware off (like it should not have no auto capability in AG because that may screw targetting ) the current implementation works very well in 4.32 in AG, AA & NAV master modesif you orbit at a steerpoint, auto stpt is not engaged
-
-
for the record… works fine for me… and always has… since U-6 anyway… which is where I came into the BMS world… again…
-
Same here. It’s always worked for me since 4.32 was released.
What Gyro is describing is what happens when AUTO Steerpoint isn’t enabled, i.e. you just fly around the Steerpoint in a circle. As he’s correctly written how to change to AUTO Steerpoint however I have no idea why it’s not working for him.

FIX
Turns out that in october after the sim was installed on my network of computers, an update for .net3.5.1 was installed along with them and after that point and god alone knows why the auto stepping turned into thow shalt orbit this steerpoint until you run out of fuel or manually switch it.
Once again the falcon dance was done on all machines and the fault has now cleared itself. So should anyone else suffer with the issue and yes I am flying BMS, or was it SP4, might be Freefalcon, then again it could be SP3 or it might possibly be Falcon 4 or Falcon 3, never notice to be honest. however the faults mended so the thread can be closed. Now theres just the submarine tank units to deal with that was in campaigns and on a different thread i think. see you all again soon and no i dont get notifications when a thread is posted too sorry.
Thanks for the helpful input from those that care, it is most appreciated but once again it turned out to be the dance to fix it.

Please, detail your system conf, OS, computer etc …
And please … confirm that you are in master NAV mode and not in A-G master mode (ICP) ?

that is most likely the problem …

irrelevant in 4.32, works in all 3 modes as said earlier in this very topic

…. I dont waste peoples time on things that dont exist, im a programmer …
Well, yeah …. except the non-working ILS/TACAN that works and except for the ghost airfield that calls the wrong runways then disappears (but just for you) and except for the non-functioning auto-steerpoint that functions. Yeah, except for those you ‘dont waste peoples time on things that dont exist [because] im a programmer’.
So now that you have so effectively shown that you ‘dont waste peoples time on things that dont exist [becasue] im a programmer’ I will look forward to your future bug reports for more than their pure entertainment value.

… for more than their pure entertainment value.
…which is already quite high, to be honest

Not to break the joke too much, but in BMS 4.32 I get auto advance steerpoint in all master (or override) mode except AG. My understanding is that BMS is too strict with advancement compared to real F-16 (have to pass too close to steerpoint).
I always wonder about Gyro’s install because BMS has bugs and errors but the bugs he finds are often so unique to his particular install.
-
I suspect THIS THREAD is one of the reasons that Gyro has so many “unique” issues with his BMS install and the fact he keeps dancing with it. We gave up the F4 dance with the last SP release I thought….

Absolutely.
IRL, the switching is done at 2NM of the steerpoint.

So the endgame is it was a fault in your machines rather than the sim? In my book that means you’re owing a few apologies to one or two around here.
