ACP PROBLEM - big time
-
BTW : PROBLEM - we just tested
-
good news… even add-on theaters in BMS (like Sinai) - if they use own Sim folder (ACDATA files) are checked and protected by ACP BMS. My concern was, that BMS ACP only checks default ACDATE files, but that is luckily not the case
-
bad news… IF HOST is hosting and ACP Check is OFF in configurator (and he manipulated FM data) … and CLIENT has it ON … connection still works and host can “cheat”.
so bottom line… you can only be sure that all is fine and fair, if YOU host with ACP ON (no matter what theater).
****…
if HOST cheats, and says ACP is on (while having it off) with manipulated files… the CLIENT is never sure that HOST is clean.

for ladder and league matches (or duels), that only means… relyable indepentend 3rd party host (or event host) must provide a server…
-
Client can be sure if he test-connects with modified ACDATA… No warning = no check.
EDIT: I’m not doing that usually though, so I’m actually expecting an explanation about why it’s not sufficient or not a good idea, more than a “ah, didn’t think about it”.
-
ACP is only one-directional (Host is testing client), but not bi-directional (client is NOT testing host as well). That´s why.
Indeed… that something one should have been thinking about. I have been told about this (as suspicisions so to speak), but we never cared to test. Today we did. Bad.
Maybe Devs dont do much match-plays online… dunno.
I dont even want to know, how many knew about this and never said anything (not to be in “line of fire” or to start “drama”). Hm.

What I wrote is still valid though.
