Difference between guard and broadcast channel
-
May some explain the differences between the two channel in BMS and in RL?
-
which channel is the ‘broadcast’ channel?
-
14 right? And 13 is guard?
-
My guess is Broadcast is Falcon’s equivalent to UNICOM, where you would just transmit blind to whoever may be tuned to that particular frequency.
GUARD, on the other hand, is the Aircraft Emergency Frequency on which you’ll transmit blindly, but most aircraft have the capability to always listen on that frequency (without pilot input), so those pilots will be able to hear you, regardless what frequency they have tuned.

Ok, so in real life which frequency would I choose during the mission to talk with AWACS, tanker and other packages of my team?
-
It’s a misconception - or a misnaming in the original way the preset worked in Falcon:
preset 13 is not guard, it’s 307.3
Guard is something else: 121.5 on VHF and 243.0 on UHFuhf radios when set normally are able to transmit and receive and the assigned preset/frequency but they also listen to guard
To broadcast on guard though, you need to set that radio to guardBackup UHF guard is when placing the BUP panel right knob to GRD (243.000)
VHF guard is when placing the COM2 mode knob to GD (121.500)
UHF guard is when placing the COM1 mode knob to GD (243.000)
in the above DED, the preset active was #13 (307.3) and the Mode knob for com 1 was flipped to GD position.
The radio active frequency is now Guard: 243.00 -

Whatever is briefed.
-
Okok, now the difference is clear. Thank you all.
Just a quick question. During sp campaign after the take off I switch from the tower frequency to the 14 channel to talk with AWACS, tanker and other packages. Is that the correct procedure? -
well, channel 13 I think.
-
AWACs or Tanker don’t give a toss what channel you’re on as long as it’s one of the freqs in the default channel list. They follow you. Flight members are the same.
If I only want to be bothered by mission assets I run U6/V1. U6 is package #1 comms so I can hear other flights in my package. If that gets too verbose I switch to U1/V1 so I filter out other flights in my package. If I feel curious about flights outside my package I tune U13. ChU12 is a bit of a cheat since it filters by range.
The difference between ch13 and ch14 is side. Ch13 is only your side. Since the AI on the enemy side will never respond to commands, they are functionally identical in single player. I’m not sure but it’s possible in MP that human pilots would hear “ai speech” generated by one human user to another human user across sides on ch14 but not on ch13. That’s just a theory though.
The other difference and probably a big one with ch13/14 is that ch13’s default freq is also the “F1” freq for IVC. So if you wanted to talk to a user in 2D from 3D over IVC, you’d use the ch13 freq. The “F2” freq is unachievable in 3D and so is only used for 2D-2D comms.

In BMS it’s not neccessary to switch a channel just talk to AWACS.
It’s “smart”: It listens on any channel you have keyed in. -
Ok, thank you all! Really!
