Item for Future Development AESA
-
Today 11/30/14, I saw on CodeOneMagazine that Lockheed is now manufacturing F-16s with AESA radar. This single development is like going from a pentium cpu to an Core I7. It would be tremendous development for BMS and it might take thousands of code lines, but, it would give the BMS aircrew the ability to see all of the radar modes simultaenously. And the radar is 100 percent passive.
Sincere thanks to BMS for making us all think as warrior aviators.

You’re right. AFAIK BLK60 using it, even not all of them

All Block-60 F-16 are using the AN/APG-80 AESA radars. Now the about the US F-16 there is development program with the Northrop Grumman to update some F-16 with the SABR AESA radars. Here’s a video about this radar itself:

RavenPassive radar? so, like… PESA, not AESA?
Hope you have some documentation on how the radar works with the new radar set… FCR symbology? OSB symbols and button presses? HOTAS controls?

Not to mention the technical stuff: what are the capabilities? Mmmmmmm. probably classified. Afaik the dev policy of BMS is to only implement new stuff if it is well-documented.

Spot on.
No point in implementing something if you need to rework on it anyway on the future
Even if I would love to play with AESA capabilities.

Please explain how a radar can be Passive, Contradiction in terms. That would make it a radio telescope.

passive radar? wat
sounds like sorcery to me

Standard radar like our RWS transmits a beam of focused energy back and forth across the space in front of the transmitting aircraft. Every return is evaluated for type of return it gets, if any. If the supposed target is designated by the aircrew, even more of the signal is devoted to the “target.” To AESA this is barbaric. In the first place, while the AN-APG 68 has a few elements in its antenna array, the AESA antenna has thousands of individual autonomous radar units which uses an energy level that is over 80db lower than the 68. Your cell phone rf receiver probably beams out far more signal than the AESA. Another great thing about this is that the new system can be operating in all modes simultaenously. A-A, A-G, SEA, and they can all be displayed together. As far as implementing this great improvement into BMS, I wouldn’t surprised if they could do it. They have wonderful track record over the years. They could use the idea of data files that could be utilized to store variable information that the new code would use to operate the new FCR. It would be a daunting task, but not impossible.
It seems to me …… BMS Marches ON!

but not impossible
Sure!
I’ve also heard that an AESA can even detect assets (planes, ships etc) in the back of the platform! And I’ve read in a Pakistani technology forum that an AESA has a viewing detection distance of up to 500nm! Not to say for the SAR 1 mode down to 25 centimetres at 200 miles out!
Just kidding.
Bottom line: no REAL documentation = only speculations = not realistic = not even a thought for implementation.

We also have documents detailing how the real jet works. Good luck getting lockheeds internal proposed technical orders dash one and dash thirty four series - and without those, you have freefalcon IFF. That is, cool, but HAWX level realism.
Actually, I think HAWX has AESA radar modeled already.
EDIT: Beaten to the punch!!!
