Campaign editing/creation: first steps
-
Hi guys!
I am trying to learn creating a new campaign but I could not find tutorial or guides or docs answering my questions, so I might really use some help from you. Here are a list of things that I have understood so far with a few doubts and questions for you all:
-
Campaign save file: each campaign has a file called SAVE<number>.CAM that contains the initial assets with no missions/packages. The file can be edited with mission commander. Every subsequent saved file will link to this file for the list of units and squadrons and the like. Plus this file defines the priority of the objectives. An objective can be a 100% priority.
- Q1: does this priority sets the trigger for the end of the campaign?
- Q2: can I have multiple “win” events?</number>
-
Campaign triggers: each campaign has a file called save<number>.tri containing the triggers of the campaign. By inspecting the files I would say that triggers allow changing the behavior of the factions and probably set the victory conditions but I cannot find a guide describing the exact sintax of this file.
- Q3: is there a guide describing the sintax of the trigger files?</number>
-
Making the campaign selectable: I have understood that each theater has a file named “Data<name of=”" the=“” theater=“”>\Art\main\theater.irc" containing the list of campaigns available. Each campaign has a description, difficulty, maximum duration/stale time.
- Q4: Can I just add another scenario to the file to make my campaign selectable?
- Q5: Where do I change the media showing up in the Campaign page of the SIM?</name>
-
Tools used: My idea is to create a campaign without touching the DB, so I am using mission commander to edit the CAM file, adding squadrons and units.
- Q6: are there other tools I should be using for campaign creation?
I really thank you for any help you can give!
[EDIT: correcting words]

1&2/ You answered with question 3.
3/ https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/search.php
Try tri and trigger file there.4/ Not sure what your question is. Rephrase without “scenario” as this word doesn’t refer to anything concrete in BMS.
5/ \Data\Art\Resource: the 3 select files
6/ and:
F4ResTool (Google) to unpack/pack the art files
Fast Stone Image Viewer (Google) to work on themBottom: look at how other theaters and theater mods are made.

Thanks Lorik. As for Q4, I was actually wrong. The theater has a file named theater.irc. Scenario is the way each campaign is called withing the file. I corrected my initial post.

I am still struggling trying to understand how campaign creation flow works. The main issue I have now is with Q4 and Q5. I have added my campaign to the theater.irc file but the campaign does not show up. The file of the campaign appears as a saved snapshot of a campaign, not as the start of it (meaning I can find the file under the SAVED tab but it doesn’t show up in the NEW tab). I have also edited the SAVE<mynumber>.CAM file with mission commander and I have set the “Scenario” and “Saved Name” values to Save <mynumber>and SAVE <mynumber>respectively, but it still does not work.
Any idea?</mynumber></mynumber></mynumber>
