To help other squadrons: INFO on public operations concept
-
Hello all, I will post here a transcript of a message I prepared for other squadrons, in order to try to explain what the 105th Kestrels are doing publicly, and how any squadron can take advantage of it.
This message was prepared to explain how the 105th, apart from training missions, will be regularly doing missions in 24h campaign servers (like the veterans gaming server conitnuous KTO), and how any other squadron, even without the need to have prepared discussions about it, can immediately launch a mission that integrates completely with an ongoing operation from the 105th Kestrels:
""Hello,
I hope that your squadron can launch missions that work together with other squadron operations, and that especially Air-to-Air and SEAD squadrons have the opportunity to assist and do a joint package.
The operation 105th TFS launched, German Shepherd I, is a squadron operation, whose information is made public so that other squadrons can take advantage of it.
To illustrate better what this means, let’s pretend that the situation is the opposite:
"let’s say that the 999th FW launches an operation called “Operation Shade Tree I” (for example), and that operation has the objective of providing Air-to-Air Combat Air Patrols in a specific area north of SEOUL (for example).
In this case, the 105th TFS would read your operation information, and take advantage of this by launching an Air-to-Ground Operation that is inside the same protected area (Area of Operations) that your squadron chose to protect.
This way, the 105th TFS knows where it is most likely for Patrols by your squadron to be launched, and can benefit from this air cover.
This means that if the 105th sees someone from your squadron online on the server, we will know that you will be protecting this area, and we can launch an Air-to-Ground mission and benefit from Air Cover, and contact you for help on your UHF channel, if necessary."
In this way, when your squadrons sees information of an ongoing operation from another squadron, you can do the same, by recognizing that if the 105th is doing ground attack and also AAA hunt in a specific area, you will also know that in that particular area, AAA is being hunted, and it is likely that this area is also safer for your squadron to do Patrols there.
This way, “one hand washes the other”.
In order for us all to be better informed, let’s all agree to post active operations informations in each server, post simplified briefings for every missions we launch, at least with our mission type, and UHF and VHF channels.
Minimum required briefing details (to be posted on the hosting server discord and the squadron’s discord):
–-----------
1 - SERVER TIME OF TAKE-OFF
2 - OPERATION NAME
3 - TYPE OF MISSION
4 - CALLSIGN
5 - VHF “intraflight”
6 - UHF 6 “tactical”More detailed joint missions that involve different squadrons in the same package, require that squadrons talk together first, and discuss a small briefing first, and are able to be online at the same time.
This way, however, even if nothing is pre-planned, squadrons that agree to post operation information, when they see each other in the air, they can have a good idea of what your squadron is doing, and benefit from this, greatly.
This does mean also that if your squadron decides to create an operation, it MUST respect the constraints of the operation, so that there are no misunderstandings. Otherwise it makes teamwork impossible if one squadron is expecting the other to do Air-to-Air patrols and not OCA strikes, for example. If your squadron says that it is launching a Patrol operation in a certain area, it MUST fly Patrols in that specified area. Otherwise it is pointless to make an operation information public. Any changes MUST be published and updated, hopefully not every day, so that there is time to have an effect in a 24h campaign.
This way may make it easier and more flexible to launch missions that make sense in a bigger context of “joint operations”.
Hope that this helps in some way, thank-you.“”

105th TFS KestrelsThis squadron follows a sequence of mission planning:
1 - No missions are created randomly.
2 - A Strategic Operation is created in a public server, and details posted publicly.
3 - A Tactical Mission that is part of an Operation is created, and details posted publicly.
4 - All missions are created for maximum teamwork with other squadrons.----------------------- https://105tfs.weebly.com/ https://discord.gg/Umn6FJRh8n
The 105th Kestrels is currently launching missions in part of operation “German Shepherd I”, details in the picture attached.

I completely agree that there should be some standardized form or data template available for flight ops within squadrons and squadrons/wings or any group of players to play with other groups. I see this happening a lot, and a standardized means to share mission plans/briefings would be great.
I think these are excellent points you bring up here, and we shouldn’t just stop there. I think WDP would also provide a useful reference to consider what data fields should be present. A lot could be added for package coordination, for instance, to that list just off the top of my head. If I come up with a more worthy list, I’ll come back and post it.
Finally, I could see an MS Word template where you can substitute your own logo there going a long way. Export to PDF from word (there’s an option in there for it under the File Menu) and distribute it to pilots.
