NEWBI question about keys in general
-
I have update 7 and I have a Logitec Joystick. I cannot tell which model exactly (3D Extreme something). I need to look that up at home. Up to now I haven’t change any settings. The key file is either keystroke.key or bms.key. I have to look up which is set right now but either doesn’t work.

There are two keyfiles provided with BMS, ‘BMS.key’ and ‘Keystrokes.key’. The layout for those key files are in your docs folder …. C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals . The game loads BMS.key by default.
You can change to another key file (keystrokes or some custom file) in the game screen BMS --> SETUP --> CONTROLLERS, then ‘LOAD’ to select an alternate keyfile. If you look at the YouTube video (something like) “Install to combat ready in one hour”, he shows how to customize key assignments in the game setup screen

What Blue said… and…
The Logitech extreme 3D pro.(if thats what you have) appears to have 12 programmable buttons, 3 axis stick, (pitch, roll, yaw) and what looks like a throttle paddle in the rear. You will need to make sure you have the drivers, and possibly profile programming software. You can get that here…
http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/extreme-3d-promake sure thats your model…
Confirm you have all of that accomplished… and we’ll go from there -

Good! I live in a perpetual state of confusion, nice to have somebody along for the ride…

I looked everything up. The Joystick is Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and the keyfile is bms.key.
All I wanna know, is there a kind of standard (common) setting I can use, that I am able to do tutorials without looking up every key?
P.S.: Drivers are installed.

Er… which keys are you looking up?
Should be able to set stuff on your HOTAS fkr the stick and throttle, and use the mouse for the rest…

Yes and no.
The standards are BMS.key or Keystrokes.key. IMHO if you don’t have a proper HOTAS Keystrokes.key is easier.
Your problem is going to be a limited number of on-stick buttons. You’re going to have to use the keyboard a lot. So, what key is, say, TMS Left? Only way to learn is to use the keyfile (and it’s associated key map).
As mentioned, you can mouse click a lot too. But in many cases using the keyboard is faster and easier.
Do you have TrackIR or another working head-tracking solution?
Edit:
Given the very limited number of buttons you have, this may be useful. Different stick, but similarly limited in available buttons/hats. The commands listed were the ones I found critical just getting started. https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?16261-Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas&p=232302&viewfull=1#post232302

Correct me if I’m wrong… but it sounds like you’re just looking for a ready made setup that you can just load up… and fly… Try sending this guy a PM, see if he’ll share his .key file and software profile with you… He has the same stick

Another thought. One point of view would say that this is the ‘standard’ HOTAS layout:
I understand that at the moment this doesn’t help you (ChrLE25), however this is what BMS.key and the AC functions in the sim are based on. Understanding those functions and how best to access them for your own setup (some on the stick, some by mouse in the clickable cockpit, and some by keyboard) will improve your ability to fly the sim …. and understand what’s what in the tutorials.
Everyone who does not have a Cougar HOTAS uses a stick/keyboard profile to achieve some personally acceptable variation of this ‘standard’.
