If money doesn’t matter.
Realsim FSSB R3 Base and Realsim F16SGRH-CE Grip.
Virpil T50 CM3 throttle

The Virpil throttle is really good, but not plug and play. It has to be configured and then he has to separate it into two devices with Joystick Gremlin and VJoy.

I think the VirPil gear is the best quality for the cost, but everyone has an opinion.
Virpil Mongoose grip\Base [458 euro], Mongoose Throttle [369 euro], Ace Flight Pedals [299 euro] = 1126 euro
I personally love my current setup of TM Warthog HOTAS w\VirPil WarBrd Base because I like the TM F16 stick, with [old] CH rudder pedals, seriuosly considering the VirPil pedals if they fit in my setup…

It depends what you after. If it’s mainly F-16 and you are after immersion there is nothing that can beat Force Sensing

Want something affordable? X52. You can map everything with little shifting (DMS and trim).
Want something with more buttons? X56. You can map everything and more (i.e. radio commands) without shifting. However, CMS would be a ministick and not a hat, IDK if this is practical.
Want something REALLY good but used for a decent price? X65F. It has even more buttons than the X56 and at least I find force sensing awesome. The usual risks of used equipment apply. If you’re willing to play russian roulette with possibly broken products, this is the best HOTAS you can get for a reasonable price.
Problems I have with my X65F:
-
Throttle axes aren’t properly aligned. Right throttle will output lower values than left throttle (in the same position). No big deal and easily fixable in Joystick Gremlin.
-
Stick is off-center. No problem at all in BMS (“center stick” in setup), must be countered with trim in other sims.
-
Pickle button is unreliable (this one is the most severe). Will sometimes release multiple weapons with one press, sometimes it releases none. Can be migitated in JG by applying a 100ms delay, which will eliminate almost all multi-releases, but will sometimes refuse to launch at all (you have to release and press again). If (big if) you are willing to take the stick apart (and put everything back together afterwards) AND are familiar with soldering very small parts (I think it’s an SMD button), you could try to replace the faulty button. I solved it by mounting an additional button next to it and connecting it to an Arduino.

Handrest (stick) is too low. You should be able to fix that by gluing something 15-20mm thick on it.
Except the handrest, you may or may not encounter these problems. You might also have problems I didn’t have. I think most of these depend on how old the HOTAS is (and how much it was used).

I have the Virpil CM3 Throttle with the WarBRD base and Constellation Alpha stick along with their rudder pedals. I cannot get my HOTAS working as of 4.35 U2. I am certainly not going to recalibrate every time I switch flight sims. I hope this changes soon, cuz it’s a show stopper. Cheers.

Program it in Alternative Launcher as long as your profile only goes up to DX32…

Thank you! @Icer Just a few mappings to iron out, but I am airborne.
Now, I have to stay after class and write lines:
I love my flight path marker. I will never leave it again.
