Winwing Orion Hotas Profile needed
-
I just received my Winwing(WW) Orion HOTAS…price $583.00 out the door. I ordered on the 6/17/21 and it arrived in Alabama on 6/23/21 via FedEx of course from China! It was a total of 4 boxes for the throttle and stick, I quickly unboxed them with feelings of being a little kid on Christmas…assembly required! Winwings customer support is very responsive via email within 24hrs. I was concerned about Key binding for Falcon BMS 4.35 because the throttle base panel: switches, dials, and axis were not recognized in BMS but in the WW sim app pro they all were active/operational! WW response:
Thank you very much for your support.
The BMS is too old and can not support 128 key hardware, please go simapp>test page of orion base, there is a selection to 4x32key device ,change to that model, you will have 4 device in BMS.I followed the instructions given and opened Falcon_BMS_Alternative_Launcher_v1.60. Voilà! Everything worked on the stick , throttle, and throttle panel…what a sigh of relief? Now, Im trying to get things setup the way I had my TM cougar throttle and stick well over a decade ago!
POP QUIZ: Is there still a such thing as stick profiles and does anyone have one for Winwing(WW) Orion HOTAS? If so, please point me in the direction where I can get one…this is what I do miss about my TM cougar throttle and stick!
PS: WinWing sim app pro is geared for DCS only my opinion…I guess us Falconer’s are considered obsolete…HA HA LOL!

Hi skulldragger,
Funny but using in game and then Alt Launcher on separate attempts, I was not able to bind only a dozen or so on each device. You state that you followed instruction’s as given but I could find no instructions for Alternative Launcher. I assume these are the instructions you are referring to. Any help you could send my way? Thanks.
PS: I agree about SimApp Pro. -
Hi Guys,
We’ve got a problem with the Winwing. There are too many buttons on the Orion for BMS to bind.
In the SimApp Pro (which is appalling) there is a button called 4x32 for “Older” games which includes BMS. If you press the 4x32 button SimApp creates 4 virtual HID devices which you can see on your Device Manager. This means that BMS “sees” four throttles and you can bind buttons from each to map to various functions.
The problem is that this really buggy and when either the throttle driver or BMS relaunches, the virtual throttles get different names. I can see that in the War Thunder control setup. They have prefixes like C2, C4 and C5 and every time I launched, the button number was the same but the prefixes were different and I had to rebind.
I think the only solution is to make an enhancement request for BMS to support 102 key bindings.
A bit disappointing but ultimately fixable.

If the winwing software renamed it you can achive it by using Jozstick Gremlin and vjoy generating 4 virtual vjoy devices and map your winwing buttons through Gremlin to the vjoy devices as that is known to work
And btw the request to extend BMS to support D3DJOYSTATE2 to support 128 DX Buttons had already been made.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give the joystick Gremlin a try.

Kerfuffle,
There are no instructions per se!This was an email from Winwing:
The BMS is too old and can not support 128 key hardware, please go simapp>test page of orion base, there is a selection to 4x32key device ,change to that model, you will have 4 device in BMS. Follow this instruction/advice…this is the only thing you will do in the simapp pro is select 4x32key device! Then open Falcon_BMS_Alternative_Launcher_v1.60 set-up your axis assign and key mapping(you will see 4 winwing throttle base2+ F18 handle columns and one Winwing Joystick base2 + F18 Grip column) this is where the fun begins! Always launch the game from Falcon_BMS_Alternative_Launcher_v1.60! I tried to embed a screenshot but it didn’t work.
Everything works with my orion in BMS…pretty freaking sweet! Launching off a carrier in f18 I flip the launch bar switch on the throttle base panel and then rotate the wing fold knob to spread and watch the wings unfold and lock.
I am here to help because I understand the frustration…let me know we can get you up and running!!
