      Hello All,

I’ve been a longtime lurker on this forum and a huge fan of BMS. Recently I came into possession of a TM Cougar and the Y-Axis pot on it was janky. An acquaintance sent me the Vipergear Midlife Upgrade hall sensor kit he had laying around as a backup for his TM Cougar for years and I installed them. I ran into issues though when calibrating. The X-Axis Hall sensor keeps giving me a “The minimum position is greater than the defined center position for the X axis” error message on Calibration and when I replaced it back with the original working x-axis pot the error disappears. The Y-axis hall sensor appears to calibrate fine but only changes values in between 500-520. When the calibration window closes, I go to test the y-axis in the viewer software, and it doesn’t move. Not even a twitch. Ironically it twitches when the original x-axis pot moves left or right. I’m super confused if I’ve done something wrong or if these are faulty Hall sensors. I find it super weird that both would have issues so I’m suspecting its me. I checked the Vipergear install manual but I can’t see anything I’ve done wrong. Does anybody have any guesses? I would very much appreciate the help. I’ve contacted Vipergear but since I haven’t purchased these myself, I’m not sure how much help their warranty may be. I may have to bite the bullet though and order a new kit. Any and all help will be appreciated.

On a second note, the ANT pot gives me the same error the x-axis hall sensor gives me. Sometimes though I can calibrate it and have it work but its all about finding a certain limit to it. This is all very weird.

Thank y’all for looking at this and I hope to hear from anyone helping out.

      DJP

I found that the distance between the sensor and the magnet makes a difference … could be you are not close enough… at least worth a try.

The sensor and magnet are off of each each by about 2-3mm. Any closer and they would be touching. Good thought though. Thank you.

Check the install guide for the stick kit. Also it sounds like the pot for the antenna on the tqs is shot. Is it the range pot or elevation?

I followed the install exactly how the stick kit install guide specified. I do know that this midlife upgrade has been sitting around for quite some time so the magnets may not have enough potency. I think I’ll just shell out for a new set. Vipergear has yet to respond three days after I sent the email out to them.

As for the pot, it is the ANT elevation pot. I think its shot too so a replacement fitting specifications of the original is on its way to me. The only difference being its a 305 deg pot instead of 270. I have it on good word though that the one I ordered worked perfect on another Cougar TQS from a friend.

                  Thank you Jumpstart5179.

This is from a post by Redneck
“The range between max and min value need to be at least 100.
Make sure the sensor pressed firmly in the aluminium shaft. The magnet should be as close as possible to the sensor but not touching it.”

2-3 mm seems a bit much, mine almost touch.

@djpich Are you sure you didn’t mix them up, they come in 3 sets , X Y Z - throttle if have.
They (vipergear) explained that they shouldn’t be mixed… eg. put magnet for X and hal sensor for Y.
Might be the case… , in newer revisions they had colored plastic cases… mine didn’t (older rev) but they came every set in separate plastic bag…

                            Can’t hurt…
