Help needed to understand 3DS Max LOD Exporter
-
Hello gent,
I would like to get some help to understand how the 3DS Max LOAD Exporter works how to use it and where it’s located under 3d max 2014.
Thanks in advance for your help.

So you have downloaded the Exporter for 3ds Max 2013 and installed it on 3ds Max 2014.
If you’re lucky then IIRC the plugins stuff is already in your \3ds Max 2014\plugins folder
Check this folder for:
Helpers.dlm
LODExporter.dleBeside the above there should exist a 2013/plugcfg folder on your HDD and it’s content like
callbacks.xml
DOF.xml
switch.xml… should go to
C:\Users_USERNAME_\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2014 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg
Be carefull about correct path !!!How the Exporter works ….
Basicly create and UVW map your project in 3dsmax, then select all in scene and pick
File > Export > Export selected > change filetype to “Falcon4 LOD V3 (.LOD,.BLK)”.On the upcomming window make sure “Open in OGLLOD” is set > click OK.
A viewer window should open and show your object.
It’s recommended to associate *.LOD with our latest viewer, which can be found in your
C:\F4\Falcon BMS 4.35\Tools\OpenGLLOD\OpenGLLOD.exe… or DL here:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/02fixf4dtazqpcb/OpenGLLOD.rar/fileThat way the updated viewer will open on each 3ds max export.
(also on dbl click on .LOD)The above is an export example without any animation.
To create animations you need to add a “DOF helper”.
“Create” > “Helpers” -> change “Standard” rollout to “Falcon Exporter”.
pick “F4 DOF”, then click and drag in viewport.Align that DOF helper to your geometry, then link the geometry to that DOF helper.
For example a weapons turret rotation uses DOF #0, up/down use DOF #1.
You can set the DOF number in the 3dsmax rollout, see videos …
… for later …
Hint: also DL and look at the “Simple DOF” Examples nearby the Exporter DL.
After export of an animated project, press “D0” or “D1” then hold “Alt” plus left mouse button
and move mouse to see animation in OpenGLLOD Viewer.Hint: press “Spacebar” to see OpenGLLOD menue and options.
I hope this helps to get you started.
Cheers, :yo:
