Free Android app for Bullseye overview and practice

A new version of the app has been released. Version 2.60 adds one new feature and has a couple of improvements.
Continous BMS mode
For those who use the app up against BMS, a continous mode has been added.
The old BMS mode will work as before, ie. with each press of the BMS button, the ownship marker is drawn showing the in-game position. This is now one of two BMS modes, the “on-demand” mode.
Long-pressing the BMS button in 2.60 activates continuous BMS mode. The dashed outline of the BMS button indicates that the app is in continous mode. In continous mode, the app updates the ownship marker once every second. To leave continous mode, press the BMS button again to get back to classic (on-demand) BMS mode.
For those who wish to use continous BMS mode, it is recommended to use the updated BMS server application. The old version will work, but a lot of messages will appear in the window. The server app is available from Github (all links are in the first post)
Improvements
Besides the BMS continous mode, I have added two small quality-of-life improvements:
-
Zooming in on the chart will now keep the ownship marker in focus. In previous versions, zooming in would enlarge the top-left NW corner of the chart. This meant that if the marker was in another quadrant, subsequent pan was required to see the ownship position on the zoomed-in chart
-
The range of the BullsEye chart is now more clearly shown (larger digits in red at the top) to help with assessing distance:

Many thanks, however how do i know the server is running on my PC?
And is there a way to resize the app on my tablet? as in portrait it hides the
BMS
button off the edge and in landscape it only shows so much of the bullseye?many thanks

You should get a command-prompt style window like discmis shows a few posts above this: https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/355023

Note that the app really does not like landscape mode, so make sure not to start the app while in landscape and then rotate to portrait. Try this: force stop the app, then start the app fresh while holding the tablet in portrait mode, it should scale to almost any resolution.

Hm, did you try starting the app while holding the tablet in portrait mode, optionally locking the rotation in the tablet settings?
I just tried starting the app in landscape on a tablet. That does not work well, even after rotation, so that might be an important factor for you.
Edit: I found out how to enforce portrait mode when the app starts. I will add that in a future maintenance release. In the meantime please try if portrait mode upon start helps

The next version of the app will always launch in portrait mode. This should add some convenience for tablet users.
Tablets are mostly used in landscape mode but that does not work well for this app (currently). So when using a tablet with the app, it is annoying to have to remember to rotate the device first. The upcoming release forces the app to be displayed in portrait mode, regardless of how the tablet is oriented/held. It is a very minor release which should be out soon.

It’s probably related to the other issue you mention above with the server application.
Here is how I use the server application. I placed the single file in the C:\Temp\ folder (but any folder should work):
Then I simply double-click the file. That gives me this window (the “server” window):
Once that is running AND you are in the cockpit, the app will show your position if you select BMS mode by pressing the BMS button.
If you do not get the server window, try running the file as Administrator (right-click the file and choose Run as administrator):
Another thing that I must mention, do not press Esc when the server window is in focus. That will close it down. Just move it or minimize it to get it out of the way

Just checked that the app works with 4.37. Phew
-
hi @jayb ,
I just got a new rig and installed 4.37.1 and all the tools etc. including BMSBullseyeServer/BMSBullseyeHelper. No matter what I do (including running the server as admin) the CMD window just sits there listening.
Any ideas? I was on Windows 10 Pro, and now I’m on Windows 11 Home. I hope this isn’t the issue - I wonder if anyone reading this is running the software OK with the same OS as me.
-
@CriticalMass Hm, it probably has to do with W11 vs W10. But to check the simple things first, did you allow the server app thru the W11 firewall (did Windows ask when you launched it)? They may have changed how that works.
I am unable to check the server app on W11, so I hope that someone has an idea besides the firewall settings …

You d’man!!
It was a firewall thing. I deleted the entries in Windows Firewall and opened the server app and all is hunky dory!
Thank you!

@CriticalMass Awesome news , great!

Thank you for sharing the great tool! I’m a very new BMS player and I’m pretty sure using this tool will improve my poor SA much better.
I know this thread is pretty old but the tool works like a charm today. I’d like to having an option that makes hide direction numbers surrounding on bullseye if you have spare time.
Thank you for your effort!

@Sen7144 do you Mean in the practice modes?
-
@jayb Yes, in practice modes
-
Hi, I did you mange to solve it? I get the same issue…
I think maybe there is some runtime engine that needs to be installed? -
hi, no, given up
-
Could you try the method in post https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/359775 ?
