Solved BMS Base Installer question
-
Sorry if this is noobish question, but I have gone to the software download page to install for the first time Falcon_BMS_4.35_setup (magnet), whatever the magnet means. It downloads and creates a folder called Falcon_BMS_4.35_setup & in it is one 94Kb file called Falcon_BMS_4.35_setup.torrent. When I click it, it doesn’t run setup as per how I read the install instructions, it ask me what app to use to open it. Am I doing something wrong?

@misty-genesis Torrent files can be opened and downloaded using a utorrent client.
-
@foxtrot701 Oh, OK thanks. The bms wiki makes no mention of needing a utorrent client, so that explains why I have the problem.

@Foxtrot701 is there a .exe file to download? I don’t like using torrents or downloading their utilities… most are shady and I don’t want another pc destroyed because of it.

@viperBAT49_DTF49 very big misunderstanding of what torrents are…

I made those torrents… There is nothing shady, those are official and clear packages.

You even have a checksum to see if the file is legit.

Stop spreading fake news…

Stop spreading fake news…

Easy there boss - he may simply be referring to the shadiness of torrent clients, not the torrents themselves!

@Foxtrot701 is there a .exe file to download? Hope that helps!

@MaxWaldorf in no way shape or form was I accusing you of anything nor spreading fake news. I was referring to the client aspect… yeesh.

@viperBAT49_DTF49
I share your concern about adware / spyware etc bundled into some clients.

In theory, I like the app-store model for things like this – running apps in a limited-trust sandbox.

(In practice, the store UIs tend to bury the permission statement… most people won’t understand them anyway … and one probably shouldn’t trust the sandbox 100% … still have to read reviews and go with safety-of-the-herd.)

For Win10, I’ve been using Torrent RT. Seems fine for occasional use.
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9WZDNCRFHW41

I have direct mirrors available for the base installer and incremental updates U1-U3 but not gonna share links without permission from @MaxWaldorf or others. Not sure if it’s okay, but got them on my CDN if they’d be helpful. Could also remain as a private link for rare use, as opposed to publicly listed. They cannot yet be found unless I put the links somewhere, won’t do that without confirmation. Let me know, happy to help if it’s welcome.

You can share whatever you like in private but no links to official BMS material on the public forum will be tolerated from people outside the team…

You can share whatever you like in private but no links to official BMS material on the public forum will be tolerated from people outside the team…

Copy that. To clarify, as in, totally private, right? Meaning, no public facing links on my website like the old mirrors, etc.? Don’t wanna anger those who put in the work, just wanna double check

@SemlerPDX yes I mean one to one but not one to many
