Tobii Eye Tracker 5
-

Hello, I have just bought the Eye Tracker 5. It is my first time using this kind of device. How can I run it in BSM?

@jstnj Did you use a different app with Tobii? My setup with it just was not as smooth as TrackIR. Believe me I wanted it to work, I hate having to attach the TrackIR thing to me headset and sometimes I just want to use Falcon without my headset when not in multi player flights and be able to look around.

I found that the SmoothTrack smart phone app works just as well as Tobii and is much cheaper. There’s Android and iOS versions also.

To each his own I guess.

I’m using it in MSFS and DCS. the MSFS implementation is native and all the settings are within MSFS itself. Once you dial it in you literally dont have to do anything, just start flying. Besides centering it at the very start of your flight, the “auto center” feature built in to the hardware prevents all the drift I used to get with TrackIR. DCS uses Tobii Game hub, and besides having to use that app to configure it, it’s much the same experience for me. Full 6DOF with a wider range so you can dip your head around without the sensor losing you. I love it. I do agree, to each their own ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Would be interested to know how non-native implementation might work for BMS. DCS isn’t technically a native Eye Tracker title, but it does appear in the Tobii gamehub where you can configure the tracking settings. It’s a no-go for me to play BMS without support because installing facetracknoir or any equivalents causes massive issues with titles that DO have an integration with eyetracker 5. Including other sims, general twitch streaming eye tracking features and Windows Hello for authentication.

ET5 is heaps better than Track IR, no more wires, better accuracy, equal or better range of movement.

I had Tobii Eye Tracker 5 and to get it to work with BMS your only option is to buy into FaceTraceNoIR app which has a Tobii Eye tracker 5 module. It does work but IMHO I’d just rather use TrackIR. It works better in all aspects for flight sims.

@jstnj yeah for DCS and MSFS it does work pretty well but for titles like BMS your only option is FacetrackNoIR with the plug-in. It’s unfortunate. So do you use it with BMS at all?

I will not install FacetrackNoIR though, because I see many stories of it causing extreme headaches and driver issues for every single other native EyeTracker game. It’s frustrating but until I can use at least Tobii GameHub to make a BMS profile I can’t see myself in BMS very much.
