so, earlier i bought a copy of Falcon 4.0 off steam (native steam store, i didn’t use an outside gray-market or anything) with the intention of using it to install BMS, as i’ve heard a steam copy is usable for it. as usual, i installed it to my SSD (exact path: G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Falcon 4.0), then downloaded the full BMS setup through the torrent here. i extracted the entire archive into a folder within my Falcon 4.0 install folder, ran Setup.exe, and was met with a message saying i needed a licensed copy of Falcon 4.0 to install BMS. of course, i was stuck here unable to install it.

what i’ve tried so far:

restarting my PC after installing 4.0 through steam
extracting the BMS install archive to an entirely separate folder from my 4.0 install
re-installing 4.0 to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Falcon 4.0

i couldn’t think of anything else to try, since i don’t know how to get the BMS installer to recognize my steam copy. none of what i found already on the forum worked, including the pinned instructions for installing BMS using a GOG copy of 4.0. if i’m unable to get this resolved within the steam refund window, i’ll probably refund it since i don’t plan on playing vanilla Falcon 4.0. if you want proof i own Falcon 4.0 on steam, feel free to check my games list on my steam profile (https://steamcommunity.com/id/wings023/). any further ideas, or would i need a GOG or retail copy instead? sorry in advance if i’m missing something obvious.

@Wings023 Did you try to run falcon 4.0 once before installing BMS?

Maybe do a repair as well from steam…

@Wings023 make a folder BMS setup unzip file
This will be the folder ware you install updates
Run exe it should create folder C/BMS 4.35
and install run BMS it will check for F4 install
if it can’t find it you will have to point to the F4
folder where the F4 exe is installed

Ah I see what you did wrong… keep Falcon 4.0 and BMS completely separate… Not the same game!

@MaxWaldorf interesting, running it first worked but i never saw this mentioned anywhere, i guess this is resolved then.

also: i fully know they’re entirely separate and i kept them separate, not sure why you’re saying that’s what i did wrong

@Wings023 BMS goes in it’s own directory X:.… don’t copy/install stuff into the Falcon4 folders.

BTW… Welcome to the BMS World :)
