Santa's wishlist for BMS

EDIT: the original title of this thread was “On what grounds do you wish 4.37 to be developed on?” to remain on par with the tradition of a thread containing a hint about a possible major improvement hoped in the next release. This title was changed in spite of that tradition, which I regret, but I am not to decide whether it was a necessary thing or not.

Europe theatre would be nice. And It would be nice also If it wouldn’t have a 128x128 limitation and this way we can use the whole Europe land. Everybody can use it same time . Most of the virtual squadrons would have its own airfield and they could visiting each other also like in the real world. Relocation for missions or trainings support.

@LorikEolmin github?
not sure any of us are answering the right question
-
QoL:
- TTS integration with 3rd party API (Amazon Polly, microsoft azure etc)
- Better rendering (terrain should not fade out at distance)
- More realistic FLIR/TGP rendering
- Prep for terrain revamp (if possible) working incrementally toward using something like OpenStreetMaps data and moving away from the antiquated tile-based system

Native VR support would be an absolute game changer for me. I mainly use VR for sim racing (iracing) but I’ve recently tried it with IL-2 and …wow, that just delivers a very different experience. I’ve tried to get VR working with BMS 4.35 using VorpX but haven’t had much luck yet getting it to run stable.

Agreed in a lot of ways. As we’ve discussed in other threads, BMS actually works really well in Vorpx inthe 3d world (sans stereoscopic though), it just doesn’t like the UI and I doubt 4.36 will be any better. Rumor has it that the developer that was working on VR for BMS is MIA so we’ll see how that goes. I’ve been meaning to post on the Vorpx support section to see if there is Anything we can do with the UI crash issues but haven’t got around to it.
My long term hope for 4.37 and it seems to be maybe part of the new terrain engine is to move away from the current tile system if possible. That is what to me makes the terrain feel the most dated, even more than the mesh detail level.

New terrain.

A full dinamic campaign on EUROPE Theater 128x128!

Good afternoon, Gentlemen.
I would paricularly like… all those theaters we can currently fly.
Balkans, MidEast128 and Nevada ahead.Easy, huh?
With best regards.

Everything you guys have done so far have been great but I would say.
- Visual quality of terrain
- Improve the sound quality of missiles, Air flow and in cockpit sounds
- Add more buildings and houses / Communities or Cities
- Adding more and improve AI commands
- Improve Naval assets role in campaign
- Sometimes AI ground units are on the runway
-
A Good render of forest like in fs2020
-
I’m obsessed with terrain, so for me the biggest dream (when it comes to 4.37) would be more realistic terrain.
-
I would say the terrain too - and with that comes better (more believable) cities, forests, coastal areas, ocean. From far up they look ok, but they should look good up close as well.
-
- missing a dedicated server which distribute all online flying data and runs on a linux server
- missing a feature to control the behaviour of AI aircraft for training purposes like maneuvre, weapons deployment, etc.
- missing data link like link16
- missing a realistic aircraft control feature for ATC and TC controllers
- missing the ability of AI a/c to fly tactical turns
- t.b.c.
-
If it not related for the terrain then my Wishlist :
- list item new sound engine for the doppler effect echoes, and more source and range
- list itemPBR material support
- list itemMore dynamic light and shadows support (maybe raytracing)
- list itembetter physics for the damage
- list itemmore particle system support (flame, smoke, water, snow)
- list itemmore assets support (buildings , trees, none military traffic)
- list itemmore cities and streets from real area
- list itemopportunity to blow up only one building like a target according the scenario.

I guess I’d like to see BMS become Open Source, and WELL documented for 3rd party coders. I’d like to see BMS become far more modular and standardized, with adequate documentation for any developer to code models of any sort for addition to the sim.
Personally, I could give a whit about VR…but that’s just me. BMS does far more - and more real world - than anything else I’ve seen out there. I’d certainly like to see that continue, and continually improved upon.
