@Carbinjay Where are you stuck. Downloading the torrent? Unzipping / installing? Some sort of crash on startup? Help us help you…

@Carbinjay oh somehow I missed the title of the post, sry.

This error message is normally caused by missing audio path. On most systems, you need to actually have speakers/headphones plugged in and audibly working, before launching BMS.

@Carbinjay xlog, crash log and dumps would help.

And make sure to update your Nvidia drivers. Apparently it can cause the issue you describe (see similar names topics)

What I did to eliminate that error was run the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU v18.0.5.2) completely cleaning out all NVidia drivers\registry\etc., then ran NVCleanstall 1.13.0 to install the latest drivers\PhysX\NVidia HDMI sound (w/o all the other Nvidia telemetry and bloatware) and the issue stopped and BMS starts normally.

On the NVCleanstall you checked (they are unchecked as default) PhysX and NVidia sound along with drivers and of course “Clean Install”?

Ok, the error is back for me and I have not installed anything new (except a Win11 update)… This is getting a bit frustrating to deal with, will reboot my system and see what happens, but it’s NOT the video drivers.

@Carbinjay - I have found the issue on my system and the “fix”, but still do not know exactly what the cause is or how to rectify it. Do you by chance have a VR headset? If I start my system with the headset powered off, I can start BMS 100x with 0 issues. The moment I start the headset for a VR game, finish and put the headset away and then try to start BMS, even if i’m sure to power the VR set off before launching, I get the “could nor create device” error. The only way to get BMS to start is a reboot making sure the VR headset is off or unplugged. I can not find any special services that start, odd drivers, etc. and contacting HP support was a waste of time. For now, I just follow the process…

@Carbinjay It might be easier to just ‘disable’ your headset in devices manager when not in use (put shortcut to devices manager on your desktop will make it easy. )

Thanks @Fish44 , but I believe that if the VR headset has power at boot-up the issue will be there even if I disable it once it has started running, requiring a reboot. I may try your suggestion just to report back what happens. What I do now is power it down when not in use and when I restart my system in the morning all is well with BMS… until I use the headset of course. The power switch for it is an arms reach away so it’s not a big issue now that I know what’s going on…

EDIT: Tested your suggestion @Fish44 , powered HP G2 on, Disabled it in Device Manager, Falcon load failed with the “Could not create Device…” error. Powered headset off, same result. Only way BMS works is when I re-boot with the headset powered off… but thanks for trying! This of course will be an issue to be resolved once they start work on VR, but for now it’s fine…
