Aircraft campaign role

I have a question about the Aircraft role Type That Van be seen in MC and also in selection screen. Does it do something to the ATO for example or is it just cosmetic? Generic, air to air, air to ground
Cheers Obi1

this shows AI generated package preferences in the campaign. general does everything. AA, AG, SEAD, try to stick to those roles in those squadrons when packages are generated by the campaign engine. Note: if you’re flying an aircraft capable of a different role, you can still plan missions yourself without any restriction.

@FreqiMANN Thanks, but I meant more from a theater dev perspective. Do i need to specify the role in campaigns or will mission generating works just the same without setting these?
My guess is its just information, but was wondering if there is more to it.Cheers Obi1

It has a VERY strong meaning as I know.
In the DB many variable determines the generated mission types for a SQ.
This is also a very strong factor. Just change with MC for a same F-16C sq. air to air from air to ground and you will see the difference.During my modding era it seemed to me almost a black magic this area.

Yes, you have to consider it a VERY serious factor if you create or modify a campaign with Mission Editor.

@molnibalage Okay thanks! Just thought Mission capability file/settings for aircraft where used mainly. Also the main role setting in Editor. But it makes sense that squadron role setting also makes a difference to ATO planning.

In my MOD if you set SEAD role score for a J-5 or J-6 they could fly even SEAD with RBK (CBU) bombs depending on this setting. As I can remember only sq. with AG specialization could fly, the sq. with general mostly do not, they prefer rather fly OCA, strike of CAS/Int.
