Alternate Launcher controls problem.
-
Today I upgraded to AL 2.1.3 and at first everything was fine. However, this evening my HOTAS stopped working in 3D
Notes1) While it doesn’t work in 3D, it does in 2D( setup indicators)
2) Control failure only occurs when BMS-Auto is loaded. Controls work with BMS-Full
3) I have uninstalled/reinstalled AL 2.1.3. Same thing happens
4) I deleted BMS-Auto in BMS, and let AL create a new one-same result
5) Did complete pc restart, no effect
Help! I miss my AL! -
@drtbkj Stumped … but just to clarify, when you say “controls” aren’t working. Do you mean,
Analog axes (pitch/roll/throttle etc) or Buttons, or Keyboard commands? or all of the above?

Hi, Airtex,
I just retested… When BMS-Auto is loaded everything works in 2D and nothing works in 3D, including keyboard. When BMS-Full is loaded, everything works in 2D and 3D.
If I can still find it, I considering installing an older version of AL , one that doesn’t create/use Auto
I found this in the 2.1.3 Readme…
"It will auto-generate backups to User/Config/Backup at its first launch.- User/Config/axismapping.dat
- User/Config/DeviceSorting.txt
- User/Config/Falcon bms.cfg
- User/Config/joystick.cal
- User/Config/<callsign>.pop"
You’re right, this is weird. I haven’t done anything with any of these files.
I hope Chiri sees this. I may need The Man on this.

Also, this may be a basic question, but it’s been awhile since I installed AL. When you go to Chiri’s site you have the Setup.msi and 2 “source” files. What, if anything, do you do with those source files?

@drtbkj Might be interesting to run BMS with -mono and see if there’s any interesting/relevant spew in the logs.
That’s my only idea.
h/t @chihirobelmo any idea what could cause this?
-
@drtbkj Could it be you have wandered into 128 keys territory? The later ALs have that option. If so, you might have to set an option in the cfg to match that

Thanks, Airtex and jayb,
To be honest, jayb, We still don’t know what happened. I didn’t change any AL commands ,or any of the files AL interacts with. it just stopped working in 3D.
Since I am a big fan of Chiri and AL, I needed a quick solution, as in reinstalling BMS.
That fixed it.
There is a nice silver lining to that cloud, though. Mafia Brother Eddie gave me a really cool procedure , hereafter and forever know as the Painless BMS Reinstall"BMS Painless Reinstallation Readme
Mafia Brother Eddie showed me a painless way to reinstall BMS if something get borked.
- Go into your File Explorer and rename your main BMS Folder to mine, Backup, or whatever (Ex: Falcon BMS 4.36-mine)
- Make a new folder titled Falcon BMS 4.36.
- Copy and paste the Setup Application exe to you new folder.
- Now go to your BMS Setup folder and run the exe. to unstall BMS. Half of the beauty of this prodecure is that it will look to your new folder,“clean the slate” of the registry entry and such, but all your files will still exist!
- Now, in Setup run the exe. again. The other half of the beauty of this is that your bsf files are still in setup. You don’t have to download everything again.
- Now go to x>4.36backup/main/whatever>data>terrdata>theater definition and copy theater.lst to your new install.
- Finally, go to x>x>4.36backup/main/whatever>data>and move all the "Add-on…"theater folders to the new BMS. You have 2 options with that. You can copy and paste. This takes awhile to do, but you will have backup. Or, just move them, which is a lot quicker. "
I didn’t try to save my old BMS-Auto. I didn’t know it was borked, too( though it didn’t seem to be) So, it may work for you to copy Auto, or whatever keyfile you use, from the original folder . I simply reset HOTAS via AL
