Solved [4.36 U2] AI crashing into the ground
-
Version
4.36.2 (x64)Build
26508Detailed Description
The AI is crashing into the ground when flying at high speed and performing the Split S maneuver below 10000 feets ALT, the issue can also happen when it’s trying to evade the player or by performing vertical loops at very low altitude.Videos
One AI plane: https://streamable.com/pff8xl
Four AI planes at the same time: https://streamable.com/ukkivtReproducibility Procedure
- Get into the “Dogfight” mode
- Add one or more (I tested with only up to 4) MiG-29S and set their difficulty to “Ace”
- Set all missiles to 0
- After spawning in the mission start flying away from them, but don’t keep them too far away
- When your speed is around 550 kts and altitude around 10000 feets start performing the Split S, make sure that the AI is following you
- Don’t slow down and try to not crash into the ground while maintaining high speed (around 600 kts)
- Level the plane just above the ground and fly away while watching all the MiGs crash
Expected Behavior
The AI not crashes into the ground -
@Tunza said in [4.36 U2] AI crashing into the ground:
Same happened to me. Dogfight in F-16C blk 50 against SU-27 on Balkans theater (updated) just to test graphics settings. Altitudes start 12000ft, after turning after the SU-27 saw it crashing in the ground. Other time I was lower, and enemy behind and it just crashed on ground like it stopped controlling the plane.
Thanks for the reports

@RideR2 Interesting. In my honest opinion, starting split S at 550kt 10000ft is already very dangerous and shall be avoided. It may be purely your luck that you do not crash into the ground. Or maybe because this is a sim so you don’t feel the G or suffering from G-LOC, otherwise i feel it is normal to crash into ground and chances are high you would crash into the ground. From your description, i feel you are trying to lure AI fly at extreme high speed and start a split S at low altitude. For me it does not sound like a bug but a normal expected result, either due to altitude not enough to recover because of high speed, or G-LOC.

You seem to assume he disabled G-LOC, did he?

@RideR2 Is this a regression from 4.36.1, do you know?
Possibly due to basic FM changes across a lot of planes (AOA limits)?

It’s not the AOA limits
The whole BFM code has been entirely rewritten so some fine tuning is necessary
However If ground avoidance is triggered to soon then the AI is very easy to defeat , because it only needs to be triggered to gain angle advantage
However seeing the OP this kind of manoeuver has always put the AI at risk whatever version of falcon / bms
