Head-tracking Headset?

Is that what it sounds like – a headset with builtin intertial head-tracking sensor? or is it just some builtin spatial-audio processing.
Anyone try these yet? Looks like a few on the market…

@airtex2019 Looks like acoustical adjustments based on response to head position changes to me.
-
@foxster Sadly I think so … seems like if inertial sensors are good enough for VR headsets they could be incorporated into regular (audio) headset. ah well
-
@airtex2019 that would be amazing!

Inertial sensors in VR headsets are not themselves alone responsible for tracking. They are part of the system which does tracking, ofc.

@airtex2019 “Get true immersion as head tracking technology tracks the position of your head nearly 1000 times a second to stabilize the soundscape, placing you in the center of your own personal three-dimensional audio atmosphere.”
Seems like it’ll track whether you’re looking left/right and adjust sound accordingly.

@Atlas I love how marketing gets ahold of technical specifications and makes them sound so crazy amazing…
“1000 times per second?! HOLY CRAP!!”
“…oh wait, you mean the main program loop uses a 1ms pause. <sigh>”Honestly, I don’t get it… when you’re wearing headphones (especially over-the-ear style “cans”) you are always “at the center”. Fluffity-fluff or worthy audio tech? I’m not dropping a dime to find out, but interested to hear from some actual users.

@SemlerPDX yeah at first it sounds tailored for first-person-shooters like CoD where you could hear footsteps or noise behind/beside you but … you’re always looking toward the screen, audio direction is determined by where your camera is pointing … and it’s just stereo at end of the day, so … wth
I suppose it’s meant to mimic the soundstage at a large concert… a scenario where you wouldn’t necessarily be looking that direction all the time… but the 3d processing would make it seem as if it were coming from a general direction in space, as you moved about.

@SemlerPDX @airtex2019 I dunno guys… back in the day, when I was playing SWKOTOR, I think it was, I remember hearing music and conversation distinctly behind me. I took of my earphones and there was silence, put my earphones back on and it was definitely behind me. The cantina environment was behind my character, or rather my character was facing one of the booths. As I turn the character around, the sound moved. Pretty cool!
However, the game was obviously tracking where my character was facing, not where I was facing physically. Do these new headsets now track where the user is facing and adjust the sound accordingly? I wouldn’t be surprised if it did and HyperX’s are quite good headphones, so maybe a small accelerometer in the headset and some fancy software can do this? KOTOR was 2 decades ago, maybe more.
