Getting cross-eyed in VR, is this normal?
-
As per the title.
5900X, 3080, 32GB RAM, HP Reverb G2. Finally got around to trying VR and everything is great except that trying to look through the HUD or really anywhere inside the cockpit and I need to close one eye to see clearly. It’s not too bad for stuff like the DED or cockpit switches as looking directly at those, I can focus on what I’m trying to read. However, looking through the HUD or even just around the vicinity of the HUD and the HUD makes me think I’m cross-eyed.
Have I got a setting wrong somewhere?

@Atlas there is the whole collimation issues that is being discussed, but then also there’s your IPD setting on your headset that very important. You can control that, so check IPD setting first.
-
@Snake122 I used this on DCS before and don’t remember having that issue. Also used it a lot more for XP/MSFS2020 but obviously those aircraft didn’t have HUDs. I’ve tried changing IPD and it did ease a bit but still was there. I’m guessing it’s a collimation issue?

A fix for HUD colimation will be pushed in Update 1…
Please don’t ask when…
-
@MaxWaldorf Thanks for at least confirming that it’s a issue and nothing wrong with my eyes!
-
@MaxWaldorf I just upgraded to the reverb G2 from the Rift S. There was no HUD issue on the Rift S as the HUD focused to infinity. The G2 renders the HUD about 10 meters in front of the aircraft. Is this the HUD collimation issue you are referring to?

Just downloaded and tested Update 1, however, I have been flying 4.37.0 for some time in VR and have “taught” myself to relax my eyes/focus a bit so as not to get so bothered about the HUD collimation issue. 4.37.1 seems to be easier on the eyes but I’m not sure if it’s just my new technique or if the issue has been fixed correctly?

@Atlas Point the FPM in the HUD at the top of a reference object in the distance, like a building. Pause the sim. Now close one eye, and then swap to the other eye. And go back and fourth a few times. If the HUD symbology stays In the same place between eyes then they have fixed the issue. If the HUD symbology moves between eyes then that’s what was causing the eye strain before.

@SOBO-87 Thank you sir! Will test this out later today.
-
This is what it looked like in stock 4.37 using a G2 for comparison.
-
@SOBO-87 How are you taking screenshots like this?
-
@Atlas
Using set g_nVRRepeaterMode 2 in the config, which was suggested to me by somebody in discord. It changes your 2D screen preview to show both eyes. It does mess some things up in VR though, like where the ATC selection is etc.
