Cockpit panel drawings
-
I was just reading through the BMS Cockpit Interaction Guide (great document!) and I was wondering if whoever put that together could also publish unmarked pictures / drawings of the cockpit? That would be a HUGE benefit to anyone looking to make a pit.
So for example, on page 2-17 of that guide you have this pic:
If a “clean” version of that was available (without the yellow mark-ups), those could be printed off and applied to simple MDF material and then holes drilled for switches (cheap and easy pit).
The entire guide is filled with all the right pics that match our current (4.37) 3D pit…just need the clean layout pics. Is it possible to publish those? Or if they are available, can someone point them out?
Or if there is another source that someone knows of that has all the updated panels (something like [http://f16simulator.nl/Panels.html](link url) but those our outdated) that would be much appreciated.

Maybe that will do it for you. I did it on my pit the way you discript. Printed out on self adhesive film and cut the hols out
http://www.f16simulator.nl/Panels.htmlFor the hols i use that! Diameter 10mm
After that drilling hols in plexiglass
Works fine for me. -
@CAG / @Atlas - That’s what I used in previous versions of my pits but those are no longer accurate; most notably the old Aux Comm and Ext Lighting panels. They’re close but was hoping for the pics that were used in that manual as they are 100% accurate with the BMS model.
Nice pit pics!
@Raptor - are you saying that there is something underway to provide those? That would be fantastic.
-
@Zeus I have 1:1 cockpit plans wip, some (haf) are ready, others i various stages. When time comes devs will have to evaluate these for a possible future release within game folders;
-
@Raptor - just wondering if this is still a WIP?
-
@Zeus - actually, if you want the graphics you can pull them directly from the file structure in BMS and do anything you want with them in Photoshop, GIMP, or some such.
-
@Stevie - That would be perfect…can you point me in the right direction? Are they just dds files or what do you mean by file structure?
-
@Zeus - they are in your BMS installation folder - from there,
/Data/Art/CkptArt I was going to
From there the files are all apparent by name. I think I pulled them out of Falcon as .jpg, but under BMS now they are .dat files of some sort. But I’m looking at them from my Mac, and it may be lying to me - I know I pulled .jpg or .png from my Falcon 4.0 install some time ago, but I may have had to be booted into Win to do it…I’ll check. I was going to use them to make gage faces…
OTOH, you could also use this drawing -

@Micro_440th - thanks, but I’ve been using those for the last couple pits refreshes I have done but they are getting outdated. For example, Aux Comm vs IFF, the Ext Lighting, etc. I mean they are pretty good and a great place to start but I was hoping to do a perfect match on my next version so if there is a way to get exactly what is used in-sim, that would be awesome.
@Stevie - All I see in there are the dat files and those clearly assume some graphic image, but I can’t seem to find any specific refence to whatever that image is or where its coming from. I’ll keep digging and thanks for the help possibly pointing me in the right direction.

@Zeus
xflight.de?
Looks like Martin’s/Pegasus’ work so might be best to contact him as he is the best person to help you out. -
I wonder if you could copy what you wanted from dds 8015 and print that.
Probably the quality would be substandard. ? -
@Zeus The renderings provided in the Cockpit Interaction Guide are made and therefore also copyrighted by Pegasus (the guy behind xflight.de).
-
@Korbi - Thanks…will reach out to him.
@Badger - thanks, that might be what I’m looking for.
I’m just curious, the 3D pit has to get that content from somewhere. If there was a way to tap into that I could probably do the rest. Maybe I just need to comb through the DDS files more.
This will get me started though.
Thanks all.
-
@Zeus - yes. As mentioned, I pulled all sorts of graphics out of Falcon 4.0 Art some years back and was able to open them, modify them, re-save them…but I can’t recall just how I did that or what I used to open them.

As I said, check DDS 8015
