I was flying in a multiplayer TE and got engaged by 4xMiG-31s at high altitude. Two MiG-31s launched SARH missiles (AMOS Fox1) at me almost simultaneously. After performing a split-S and dropping chaff, my RWR stopped registering the 31 spike (i.e. the MiG-31 lock stopped chiming) and the threat light stopped flashing and went out. However, the second SARH was still guiding on me and successfully struck me without further warning.

This seems like a bug with multiple semi-active missiles. One theory is that if you have multiple SARH missiles tracking you simultaneously and you break one of the locks, BMS erroneously drops the threats on all tracking missiles, even if the other missile is still tracking. In my instance, I broke the lock on the first AMOS, but BMS dropped both threats on my RWR. I turned back in on the bandits - thinking I was safe - but in reality, I had another Fox1 inbound with no warning. Ideally, I should have continued receiving spike tones from the MiG-31 and my threat light should not have gone out until I trashed the second lock and missile.

Video evidence, with ACMI included, can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iKQAP3ck2o. I have not yet recreated this bug in a deliberate experiment, but I have experienced this type of thing in the past: a SARH missile strikes with no audible or visual notification on the RWR in certain circumstances.

If more information is required, please let me know.

Weird… semiactive inbound missiles, coming from the same jet, will be guided by the same onboard radar… If you defeat the first… you are in fact, defeating the Jet´s radar, so the second missile will be defeated as well.

I believe that it was two SARH missiles from two different jets. Both had locks on me.

I have seen comments on other threads that RWR in BMS works better than IRL, so I am not sure if this could be considered a bug or not. Surely someone “in the know” will be along shortly to enlighten us on your question. :-?

Please provide ACMI. Are you sure you were within RWR working limits?

I had the exact same issue last Saturday during PvP. Red air was mig29A & SU27 with AA10A. Had a spike head on FL270. Going defensive, breaking lock. No more 29 on RWR and no more launch warning or sound. Turning back in hot after a few second. Kaboom.
Could it be MP related? I never had this before when training with AI. However in MP I had it last week and I remember at least one similar event with another guy fem our sqn in the past.

Thanks for investigating, I’ll share the ACMI file tonight.

I was within 40nm of the hard locking bandits; they both launched their Fox1s at me at this distance. When I closed with them, I was probably 30nm away before I was impacted by the Fox1 without a threat light for the tracking missile. I believe I was within RWR working limits.

In the TE, the MiG-31s were AI controlled on REDFOR; there were 6-8 human players on BLUEFOR.

At very long range engagements the RWR sometimes is buggy. I have no idea why, but is a general experience from me, I have expericened during my test.

Meh, RL RWR is buggy too 😛

For clarification, you lost your RWR spike from the MiG-31 that was still hardlocking you (at ~+00:25:00), correct? Looks like you turned back in thinking you’d duped them so I’m presuming that’s correct. In which case I need to continue to remember to distrust my RWR… at least it’s better than what the Ruskies have.

Yes ma’am, that’s correct. Not only did I lose the RWR spike but the threat light also went out. I broke the lock on one of the bandits but the other still had me spiked and was guiding his Fox1 in without any further warning to me.
