Cockpit sounds in headset and outside in speakers. DONE!
-
Hi,
long time ago I read this thread https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?11922-headset-and-subwoofer-combined and it came to my mind that I could use this to set some auto channels for the headset and others for speakers.
For this I should theoretically need two 5.1 devices and choose with channels I want to activate in each one.
On this thread https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?8891-Missing-RWR-Tone&p=110162&viewfull=1#post110162 I realized that betty and cockpit sounds were in a separated channel so I plan to put this channel, along with IVC, on headset and the rest in speakers.I have an Realtek onboard 5.1 device where I can connect (real) 5.1 headset and an external 5.1 speakers system that I could connect through optic fiber to the PC.
So anyone tried this? Any advice on it?
Have fun!

Set the headset to be the default comms device, set the external speakers to be the default device.
IVC will play through the headset, All BMS sounds will play through the external speakers - including AI radio comms.
If you want betty in the headset, then you need everything in the headset - AFAIK its not possible to separate betty from the rest of the BMS sounds in 4.32.

Hi, thanks for that, Blu3wolf. I will use it for the second part. What I meant is separate inside from outside cockpit sounds and I ALREADY SOLVE IT!!!
It seems that BMS cannot handle propertly 5.1 sound (it sends different audio output to each channel) and we will take advantage of it.
Well, today I began to test and it is pretty easy to do!!!
We only need a 5.1 PC audio card with this type of connections:
We have to use orange output for inside cockpit sounds (comms, bitching betty, clicksā¦) and green output for outside cockpit sounds (booms, engines, etc). Thatās all!!!It is a simple physical plug choosing. In you sound card with that connectors, plug your 5.1 headset only in green plug. I mean: let the orange one disconnected. You can let the black one if you wish (no sound from it AFAIK). And in the same sound card plug your 5.1 speakers in the orange one ONLY. Yes, you will loose 5.1 surround enviroment but in BMS it doesnāt work anyway.
I use Sharkoon 5.1 headset for inside cockpit sounds and external 5.1 speakers systems for outside ones.
I doubt if connecting 5.1 speakers through digital fiber plug of directly to green plug. With first way Iāll be able to use IVC through headset the easy wayā¦ But that will be that second partā¦I tested with standard 2.1 headphones through orange or green plug and I only got mono sound, so if anyone want to go that path heāll have to solve that first.
Have fun!

Well, let us know if you get a reliable way to do itā¦ I have a 5.1 speaker system Im using with a USB 5.1 headset. If I can get internal sounds through the headset and external ones through the speaker, Id be pretty ecstaticā¦
-
Blu3wolf, read my last post againā¦ Iāve already done it!!! but it is for 5.1 with physical connectors. With 5.1 USB you could try to duplicate outputs and choose ONLY orange output for headset in software and green one in another device. But I didnāt try this.
Good luck! -
I have physical connectors. They are being used already by my 5.1 speaker system!
I also have a 5.1 headset.
I dont really see from your post how to do that. Youāre saying that the center output (orange) already has inside cockpit only, and the front output (green) already has external sound?
If thats the case, I can easily enough remove internal sounds from my external speakers by unplugging the orange port on my speakers. Thats not going to add it to my headset though. And given that the USB headset is currently only playing IVC, I dont think I can just add an audio channel to it. Guess Ill have to have a read of the manual for my sound chip.

Interesting I have been after this feature for a while.
I can confirm using 5.1 speaker settings that selecting centre speaker has cockpit sounds only (Betty, RWR etc.) and the annoying inverter clicking sound, but it is in mono so a simple mono to stereo converter plug could solve this to receive in a stereo headset.
Nice find!

Oh shit!
Maybe the biggest find of the year!
This is maybe why any ppl using a 5.1 is missing the comms and Betty!!!?!
I think that even coder never paid attention to this ā¦.! Let me ask them ā¦

As easy as it seems!!! And it works like a charm!
Have fun -
mrwell, I will try to do this tonight on my home PC ā¦ If it works, I will kiss your butt and it will be considered as an amazing discovery!!!
-
And not only that, maybe this is the reason why in other not modeled aircrafts (F18, F14, etc) when you ride in you only hear internal soundsā¦
There is no audio from the external sound channel!
Maybe it is easy to fix knowing that (I hope) -

Lol, thanks very much. My pleasure to provide something for the community

Wow, so if i read you correctly, i can seperate outside BMS audio (engine, landinggear etcā¦ ) to my normal 2.0 speaker set and play the internal sounds (betty, AI comms) + IVC in my headset? That would be really cool! Iāll try it this evening!

IM using 5.1, and not missing comms or bettyā¦?
-
You could miss it depending on how you set your 5.1 up.
Something similar happened to me with ARMAIII. I missed front sounds till I set it up correctly. -

Maybe because your sound card is not set 5.1 or configured properly or an exception ā¦ or ā¦
But:

-
Its actually configured in a 7.1 configuration, with nothing plugged into the side speakers port- being a 5.1 speaker system thats plugged in, I dont own side speakers to plug in.
-
Maybe I missed it but, how does IVC fit into the āmixā?
Through the headset ?? -
Thatās the second part of my research. I read a lot about forcing a program to this or that audio card so I think it wonāt be difficult BUT, since I want IVC to be on the headset I have to deal with how to do it to keep both things: separated external and internal sounds and having IVC where internals are.
I plan to make my own IVC network to test. Maybe it is going through center channel of 5.1 and is already solvedā¦ If not, Iāll see what to do -

I think you should probably set it to 5.1 configuration if you only have 5.1 speakers, so that the side channels are mixed down into the speakers you do have. Otherwise you lose the sound on those channels. I donāt know if BMS actually sends anything to them though.
Alternatively, you might be OK if you set it to 7.1 but untick the speakers you donāt have, which should force it to mix them down to the speakers you do have.
I found a weird bug with the Realtek control panel a while ago, where if I set it to Stereo (I only had two speakers) it would lose the center channel, which was very obvious when playing games with dialogue as you could barely hear it. What I had to do was set it to 5.1 and then untick the speakers I didnāt have (i.e. everything except for the front speakers) which forced it to mixdown the other channels into the front two. They might have fixed that now though.
