      hmm Grandpa needs help…

I have the hotas cougar with my own keyfile. win 7 64 bit / foxy here.

I just got the MFD Cougar pack and downloading drivers and when I went to download programs I saw Target and that rang a bell about problems etc.

Now I am at full stop puzzled how to proceed with installation.

So any advices how to install them without fubar things up?

I don’t have a problem to set them up via the key file after the drivers are ok.

Though I would much appreciate it if someone would share his portion of the file if that would help me.

      So?

      Thanx in advance…

Hello Arty - why would you want to install T.A.R.G.E.T.? It is not necessary for Cougar MFD - you can just install the basic Cougar MFD Drivers and still have all the functionality available such as adjusting brightness levels and changing MFD ‘identity’ (Left, Right MFD etc)

This could be helpful though: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33932

            ^^

Id recommend that, to include the stick as well. You can assign everything you need on the stick with the keyfile, same as the MFD OSBs.

I didn’t see any option for this with the bare drivers, and had to resort to installing TARGET. What’s the trick ?

                    Hello Boomer
When you first install Cougar MFD you are only asked to install drivers - this then installs the MFD Control Panel at the same time which is accessed through Game Controllers in windows Control Panel & I think also via Windows Start Menu under Thrustmaster. MFDs will just appear to Windows as Game Controller switches and so that is how BMS also sees MFD.
If you then use the Dunc_dx keyfile from the BMS folders you can re-assign (in-game in BMS Setup for Controllers) all of the OSB buttons and rocker buttons on the MFD to the corresponding OSB functions within the keyfile. Same procedure of course to assign Joystick buttons to different functions.
The MFD Contol Panel also gives control over LED brightness on the MFD and control over the MFD ‘identity’ - i.e. if it is a right or left MFD (also for other flight sims like DCS A10 if there is an additional MFD and you have more than one Cougar MFD pack then you can configure multiple MFDs each as a seperate device right/left/centre etc.).
If TARGET is not causing any problems then you might as well leave it as-is but if it makes your pc unstable then consider uninstalling and going back to basic MFD drivers

if u don’t use dunc’s profile and have yours or whatever u can assign the keys just fine.
                      Open keyfile generator.xls
Go to Callback Reference sheet and copy paste the mfd (left or right ) callbacks to the DX BUTTONS sheet at column B. At cell B2 set the Controller Number as u see it in the control panel. So if u want to set MFD_1 then write 1 in the cell B2. U will write 2 in cell B2 for MFD_2.
Then in column J select the cells from J16 to J35 and copy paste them to your keyfile replacing the old ones (U should back it up first please). U can open it with notepad.
                      Do the same for MFD_2.
                      save the key file.
Fire up Falcon. In the setup controllers when u press the buttons it will not say anything (what function is called, u can also add it but who cares it’s just a display) but in game u will see it works just fine.

What I would like to ask is the shift function on this… which is the shift button? and how it’s declared?
Edit: ok I got it about the shift function … it’s on the excel: “This is the value that you will put into the config file; set g_nHotasPinkyShiftMagnitude <n>”
So u set the value and then pinky and MFD button does the shifted function.

                      Seems we covered the subject?

Now it can go in my HotList…</n>

By manually editing the keyfile you can assign custom functions to the rocker switches, thus providing 16 extra functions. Like this:

                        SimStepComm2VolumeUp 54 8 -2 0 0x0 0 /where 54 is the Windows assigned rocker switch button number.
