Taking out the Kirov - AGM-65G FTW

OK, I made a check with AGM-65G’s. destroyed the last kirov (1ST FRY Task Force) in the COOP SERVER.
(I managed to close 5 NM on the ship without being fired upon.)My basic impression is that 8 AGM-65D’s do more damage than 4 AGM-65G’s.
for example - using the G variant inflicts just enough damage to make Kirov sink eventually. but the mission will
be failure since the campaign code does not recognize for some reason that Kirov was sank by me.using D variant payload, Kirov is destroyed on place and recognized as such by the campaign code.

Both pretty silly, A really big ship like this should be able to soak up Mavs Gs without real trouble.
Mav Ds should hardly affect it at all. A lucky hit might start a fire or kill some crewmembers but do nothing to the structural integrity of the ship -

Yes, I am, a Ship like the Kirov can not be compared to the standard frigatte.
This thing is twice as long, twice as wide and had 6 times the displacement of an Oliver Hazard Perry.
the OHP got hot by two exocet and survived.The Exocet is a 670 kg specialized anti ship missile with a 165kg Warhead
The Mav-D weights 210kg and has a 57kg shaped charge warhead.
The Mav-G weights 305 kg and has a 136kg warhead which should do well against smaller warships. -
You will probably find the amount and type of damage depends on where it gets hit.

First, you’re not getting inside 100 miles of the Kirov without taking SAM shots unless you’re stealthy. I doubt our ability to jam it and degrade its tracking inside of 50 miles. It may not be designed to withstand 16-inch armor piercing battleship shells, but what it has lost in armor it most likely makes up for with watertight integrity. Maybe 8 SLAMs would sink it and definitely JASSM or Tmahawks, but I don’t see mavericks being a credible threat, they are very slow weapons that shouldn’t pose any problem for targeting for its CIWS equivalent.

Don’t think it’s the speed more than the larger RCS and IR sig - SDBs are slower but if you cant pick them up they will get through.

RNoAF F-16 can. KF-16 and other variants are also capable of launching Harpoons.
Radar horizon will be a problem for SAMs - I reckon you can approach him up to 30 NM if you fly close enough to the sea. A harpoon can be fired at this distance.
As for CIWS, IRL, just attack it simultaneously with 2*2 ships from two different azimuths (something like 60° or 90° apart), 2 harpoons each, and you are bound to hit him. You will not sink him (most antiship missiles cant), but you will cripple it and cause enough wounded and fires so that the crew cannot operate effectively the weapons remaining.
FYI, a single Harpoon or Exocet hit is believed to be enough to incapacitate a destroyer. 2 or 3 on the Kirov, should be enough too.

A better way to sort this out would be in a Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations scenario. Command has a much, much more robust model for ship sensors, missile defenses, and damage than does BMS. My sense is that the Kirov would easily handle any of the above scenarios and the Maverick-armed F-16s would be downed well before they could reach maximum launch range.

I ran a few scenarios in Command. For the first I ran a 4-ship armed with AGM-65Gs (Command only models real-world loadouts, so each aircraft only had 2 AGMs). The Kirov has some pretty fierce SAMs, but the F-16s piloted by Ace-level BMS-grade pilots defeated them. The Mavericks weren’t so lucky. Despite being quite small, the SAMs were able to successfully destroy most of them. The one that got through caused only (very) minor damage. I then ran a 4-ship armed with Harpoons. These did much better and the F-16’s could launch from stand-off range and turn and run away from the SAMs. However, with 4 shooters, you only get 8 missiles. These were all destroyed either by the SAMs or the CIWS. I finally ran a 12 ship armed with Harpoons with a second 2 ship for targeting (the range of the missile is about 2x the F-16’s detection range). This worked and several missiles got through. I can post some screen-caps if anyone’s interested.
CMANO is a great high-level sim for anyone who loved Harpoon.
