Maybe this question has been asked before, but i have some doubts…
i have a new afm.dat for Hornet C, i don’t remember where i got it, trying and making a lot of proofs it is almost same that afm.dat in bms stock installation, now i see hornet more powerful in take off, hornet can fly up at 150 knots with some loadout, it’s fast to accelerate, but no fast in velocity, keep 1.05 mach or less at angels 20, trying in dogfight i see that keeping 230 knots and AF it is almost the best dogfighter, i can eat easily a MIG29 or SU27!!! if this afm is closely to Hornet C RL so hornet is best in dogfight than Viper??? any expert to comment?

print out the E-M chart from it and compare it to the RL Hornet C model and see how close it is…

RL fighter pilots that have flown the airplanes in question seem to agree that the Hornet dominates at slow speeds and the Viper is better at energy management. So it all comes down to the situation and how both pilots use the strengths and avoid the weaknesses of their airframes.

The BMS F-16 can quite easily beat the AI Mig-29 in dogfight if used correctly. Also, I would have my doubts about trusting any AFM other than the F-16’s, especially if provided by 3rd parties.

That said, if I had to choose what to take to war, I would take the Hornet… it can fly with one engine out.

So can the F-16, as long as you want to go roughly downwards…

F-16 has quite a good glide distance - have used it a number of times.

A Navy guy who flew the big engined FA-18C and is now flying F-16As put this on f-16.net regarding an acceleration comparison.

. but none in the vein of a drag race, which is what I’d guess you are wondering about. The Viper would win that every time though. It’s takeoff acceleration in segment 5 AB is very impressive……though not quite as good as a Hornet going off the catapult

Its glide ratio is 7 nautical miles for 5,000 ft. thats what, about 7.8:1?

Thats not a ‘good’ glide distance - but in fairness not exactly a ‘bad’ one either.

Its certainly much better than the infamous ‘brick with wings’ which it is perpetually compared to, anyway.

I guess if the A models beat the C hornet, the 50 C models would definitely beat it. The C vipers are heavier, but in terms of TWR the 50s outperform the A vipers.

Good compared to the F-104 - which is the only other I have tested and compared to the manual figures - although was still surprised how far the F-104 could glide!

With the Navy using F-16A Block 15 OCUs - these were late 80s essentially C airframes so likely have a worse T/W due to the weight - however if you use the original figures for As, then the C advantage looks mostly down to better T/D.

In BMS flying F18E you can carry 6-120C, 2-Aim9X, 4 JSOW, and 450 gl external fuel so you get a lot more bang for your buck and if you are in a turning fight with SU27 you are already screwed

Naw an SU7 would be a pussy even for a fully loaded Rhino …… an Su27 on the otherhand 😉

Lol you just need one missile to defeat a Su27 with 10 AA missiles, i’m not talking about that, i care the dogfight mode, who is better? no who carry more missiles?

That would be the better pilot then if you are talking about guns fight. Carrying 12 120C means you can DOWN 12 SU27’s…

I did a little Viper v. Hornet fun with AI and a person and:

Viper wins a drag race so hard. For a consolation price the Hornet can decelerate the best.
Sustained turn performance is nearly equal. The Hornet has lots of power.
AI viper was way too difficult when not on the deck.
