Missile detection on radar?
-
Hello all,
On the SMS page of air-to-air mode, obs18, we have an option to select “small”. Although not implemented in BMS, the dash1 manual says its used to intercept missiles. How does that work in the real f16? Can you see missiles on radar and target them?
Thank you

It’s guesswork, but yes. All stuff like that is super classified, and it should be. One would also assume that AESA radars will do special sweeps to monitor for incoming threats or from launches from known tracks. If you can detect it, you can target it. The newer SAM’s can target incoming weapons of most kinds.
It’s done at sea (RAM), so why not in the air ?

the dash1 manual says its used to intercept missiles.
??? … RD is probably talking about cruise missiles, UAV’s and/or helicopters.
All stuff like that is super classified, and it should be.
Not specifically classified and explained into manuals and here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/content.php?150-AMRAAM-Pilot-Guide

Yeah, missiles can show up on your FCR. Big speedlines!!! Just not in BMS.
