Sometimes (IRL) depending on moisture conditions, even without any clouds clouds, you have no horizon. White above, white below.

perhaps dee-jay…. but probably not whilst orbiting over the southern Sinai!

I imagine its probably fairly dry there and to the north… should be dry enough for 100 miles plus view distance…!

I imagine my computer could draw terrain that far… although probably not units in all directions that far.

Pictures taken the last week. We have the horizon, but it is a bit “hazy” 😉

I’ve said “moisture” but it wasn’t exactly the good words. You can encounter some bad viibility even with 37°C/-5°C dew point. Reason: haze and/or dust wind.

Not rare to have bad visility condition there.

Wait … I will try to find a pic of Jeddah or Djibouti to show you what I am talking about exactly 😉

And just to illustrate the grey band known in BMS

I see what you mean Dee-Jay… but its still better visibility than BMS!

Mebbe the gray band could be ‘kicked out’ a bit further?

So I heard someone complain (over a year ago now I think) that Haemi tower is not physically there in BMS.

I decided I wanted to see what it looks like, so I booted up FSX to check it out!

Unfortunately… while BMS might be missing the civilian ramp at Seosan, FSX is missing not just the civilian ramp, but everything apart from the runways!

I would have turned around and gone back to Kunsan in disgust… except it took me 54 minutes to get here. Turns out the Sportstar goes a lot slower than the F-16.

Now, Kunsan looked better! Except… well it turns out BMS’ Kunsan looks a LOT better!

Just did a comparison flight from Kunsan to Seosan in BMS. It was a lot shorter unsurprisingly. Terrain was very flat by comparison. Quite a few spots that stood out in FSX, which were flat in BMS. I guess this is the result of the height resolution for BMS being so large.

Naturally Kunsan looked better in BMS.

And Seosan of course looked better…. although I guess it would be hard for it to look worse…

Generally speaking a few things stood out in FSX. Weather looked better. Better sense of altitude, I guess in part due to the terrain detail. Some neat things stood out - like the causeway bridge southwest of Seosan/Haemi.

I found myself looking out for terrain details I recognised from BMS in FSX, and I found most of them! When I did the comparison flight I realised I was looking for landmarks from FSX in BMS - but most of them were not there.

Thats fair though, because FSX had the same thing! Straight after takeoff on 26 at RKJK I went looking in the cockpit for the radio navigation instruments…. and of course the Sportstar doesnt have any XD
