BMS Re-Install - Is an Alternative Launcher Keymapping Restore Possible?
-
I’ve done a clean/new install of 4.37 and saved up my User\Config & Backup folder prior to uninstalling the sim. Is there a way to import/copy/past my prior AL HOTAS key mappings so that I don’t have to set them up all over again? I’ve lost all my notes on the topic so I’m just trying to save some time if possible.

@Slick8791-0 I don’t remember the name of the specific file, but if you copy the config folder and paste it into the new installation it would be enough, if you have screens for the mfd copy the tools/RTTRemote folder
-
@Apolo27 Thank you and I’ll give that a shot!
-
@Apolo27 copying the whole config folder is not recommended. In doing so you are copying the old config file forward that gets updated with each update. You need to copy just the relevent hotas files.

@Icarus Hi, I’m not at home and I don’t remember exactly what the name of the file my colleague is looking for is… if he has a backup of the config folder, he can continue working from there… it’s something.
Anyway, thanks for the note, I’m not an expert or anything like that.
Greetings -
@Apolo27 axismapping.dat and all the Setup xml’s.

@Apolo27 axismapping.dat and all the Setup xml’s.
@Slick8791-0 Please follow Icarus’s advice.

@Apolo27 Received and acknowledged! Thanks to all and I’ll give it a shot with the selected files, etc. rather than a total copy/past of the Config folder.

@Slick8791-0 For hotas button and axis mappings, restore the Setup*.xml files from your backup
For keyboard mappings, restore the BMS-Auto.key file

Is this correct in all circumstance or just this situation?

@Icarus basically all situations
well, except if you’re moving to a new PC, or if reinstalled Windows etc
then, the DirectInput device IDs in the Setup*.xml file names, may need to be adjusted

@airtex2019 Hoping you may be able to expand on how that might be done as I am looking to reinstall Windows 11 within the next few weeks or so.
Also, an update as I did replace the Axismapping.dat file with my old backup but it seems the launcher kept creating brand new .xml files for the HOTAS as the new xml file names do not have the same meta data string. So, I did a copy/paste of the xml’s data from the old files and into the new ones which seems to have worked.
Old:
Setup.v100.Joystick - HOTAS Warthog {49F54010-19B1-11EF-8001-444553540000}New:
Setup.v100.Joystick - HOTAS Warthog {809E1B40-0895-11F0-8001-444553540000}I am seeing my old HOTAS button mappings to appear now in the AL but haven’t taken it for a test flight yet. To clarify, the backup files were created on the same Windows 11 installation that the new BMS (re)install was done on so maybe I’m missed something on the easier side on this mapping restore?

@Slick8791-0 that sounds fine and correct – well done!
Sometimes Windows driver stack will generate new IDs and this dance has to be done
It can happen, eg. when unplugging and replugging into a different USB hub

Good to know! At least I don’t have to spend time scrolling and clicking key by key to set everything back up again.
Thanks again everyone for the help and support!
