      Hi folks,

on our last squadron mission i was tasked to disable an enemy runway. Many AAA and a Patriot system stationed there so i went VERY fast and VERY low 🆒 The guys down there were pissed and sent many stuff up to me, but the missed all.

After the mission i watched the ACMI and i saw i was way to fast (around 580kts) and way to low (between 190 and 160 ft) when rippling the six BLU’s of but the RWY was nonetheless down (segements were destroyed respectivly damaged), but should’nt the Durandles have no effect. At least, should’nt i have been damaged by the blast effects of my BLU’s?

I dont think you would have been in their frag pattern?

Like, they are retarded after release, until the nose gets under 70° pitch. Then they are a penetrative weapon as well, which would further limit the chance for damage.

I would assume your greater speed would get you further away from the weapon effects, and the weapon type would make you a lot safer from this anyway.

Depends on your fuze settings…. if you want to model accurately a BLU-107, I think a few seconds of Arming Delay are not unrealistic 😉 But Durandal flight modeling in BMS could be better, i agree.

As for you being damaged : I dont think so. The bombs have a lot of drag, they decelerate very fast, and the actual blast of a durandal is underground, projections are pieces of the ground, usually bulky, not very dense (compared to metal fragments), not very fast, risks of damage to own AC are low.

Now, an interesting test would be to make a wingman fly in the blast and see what happens in BMS. I have actually not idea 😛

Old story, arming delay… In fact because of modeling limitation Durandal makes full damage even the rocket booster was not used.

Yep. This is the case when ppl are miss-using them.

Once again … 80% of the realism is not the soft itself but how ppl … blah blah blah … 🙂

Couldn’t fin RL pics of Durandal damage (beside a short video which show a dropped Durandal with dummy warheads IMO) on a quick google search. Hoped i would find something as it was heavily used in Desert storm.

Arming delay was set to 0.05. I have to say normally i use LGB’s for RWY’s but i had to fly this loadout, as wingie of the second element you don’t have much choice 😉

Wikipedia states 500 kts. max and 200 ft minimum release altitude, so i wasn’t that far off 😉

Is the correct and realistic setting? Then i will of course use it hereafter. My bad then when they don’t go off because i’m to low :wfish:

In BMS you’re NEVER to old (read “flying it long enough”) to learn something more …

It’s as close as I can find out from a rather detailed description of the parts internal to the weapon and several known delay elements. It also very closely corresponds to the published limits of I think 250-500’ AGL and ???-620 KIAS.

Hum… ok for arming delay, but you would usually wait more, since after 1,5s, I’m not sure the drag chute has put the bomb at a steep enough angle to penetrate concrete.
