Radar Cursor Randomly Stops Working [BEING INVESTIGATED]
-
I’m using the Thrustmaster TWCS throttle. I’ll be in the middle of a campaign flight and then all of a sudden I’ll lose full control of my radar cursor. It doesn’t work on the FCR, HSD, or TGP. All the other buttons and axes on my HOTAS will work BUT the cursor. I’ve even opened the launcher while the issue is active and it will still detect the axes movement of my radar cursor in there but just won’t apply it in-game.
-
@MustErd I had the same issue last week. After the MP flight, I asked in the FL Discord channel. Advice was to DMS Up to cure as similar had happened to an MP wingman and it worked apparently. As I can’t replicate, I’ve not idea if that would have worked or what the underlying reason was.
-
@turkster72 Alright I’ll try it the next time it happens. Thanks!
-
@airtex2019 @chihirobelmo this pops up quite regularly. Has this bug become a feature or can you fix it?
-
@Tumbler31 the code as I recall is pretty explicit “if dms-up is held, do not move cursor”
There’s no obvious tie to FLIR but I think that’s the intent – the only thing I know of that involves holding dms-up.
Easy superficial fix to only ignore cursor input if FLIR is active
But it really cries out for some better factoring
I’ll see what can be done there
-
@Tumbler31 all came about (or exasperated) since .37u6 with the intro of the pinky/double click zoom/pinky shift (hold) function…
-
@HaggisHero yes the issue is known. It’s a bug. Hopefully @airtex2019 can give it some TLC

Some Questions
- Do you guys all using SimHotasPinkyShift?
- If then do you guys use Launcher to assign SimHotasPinkyShift?
- If so can you confirm SimHotasPinkyShift is assigned to both non-shifted and shifted layer of same DX button? (like DX3 and SHIFT DX3)
-
@chihirobelmo 1,2) yes launcher used stick: pinky switch (dx switch) 3) yes on my incidence DX3 & DX3 SHIFT
-
@HaggisHero do you bind DMS UP on SHIFT layer or non-SHIFT layer?
-
@chihirobelmo Yes, that’s prob it - I have DMS UP on a shifted layer - will rebind. Thanks
-
At some point it would be convenient for the Launcher to show the callback names as well, such as SimHotasPinkyShift. Right now we just have the label text. That would mean that we could filter for the callback name too
Can I just ask, I use DMS Up/Down on a shifted layer to adjust the seat elevation (good for landing). So I hold in my shift button and press DMS UP or DOWN, then release the shift button. Are we not supposed to use it like that ?

it should also work with dms up on shifted layer
-
@chihirobelmo nope i have all hotas functions on unshifted layer, the shifted layer (in my incidence) is used for ICP funtions thus cant be this, like I stated this has occurred since the introduction of the L16 zoom function
-
@HaggisHero
This could be a good solution for you: I highly recommend buying a SIMGEARS ICP. This would free you up from using the DX/shift with your HOTAS. I am very pleased with the quality of the ICP. Very easy to install. works great in the BMS sim. -

SIMGEARS ICP
not in the position for that yet, however as this oddity has occured since u6 the better solution would be for a way to disable the l16 zoom function and return my pinky shift to the old pre u6 function. and it seem it causes issues with other users aswell whom use shift layers on hotas

Interesting – can you zip up your User/Config folder and share it to me? (dropbox or google-drive or mega.io etc)
And if you have this happen again… please do the following –
- ensure
set g_bLogInputFunctions 1
(this is the default) - use the [shift+T] chatbox to enter a phrase “frozen cursor” or similar … this will record a line in the xlog
- try DMS-up – shifted, or not – to see if that unfreezes the cursor or not
- share the xlog file from the flight
- ensure
-
@chihirobelmo Yes to all 3.
-
@chihirobelmo My DMS up is on a non-shifted layer.
-
@airtex2019 A little late to this, but I was just in a flight where the cursor was frozen and DMS up did manage to fix it.
