Baltic Theatre Square Lakes
-
Greetings everyone.
When flying the Baltic theater, i am occasionally seeing square/rectangular lakes like there are terrain tiles missing.
The largest is 33 miles directly north of Berlin, there are also a few other smaller ones in the area heading East. I have tried reinstalling and updating the theater but they appear to be in the same place every time. Is anyone else having this issue or is it just something i may have done. Its a great theater and in my opinion the best looking other than the square lakes.
Thanks.Graham.

@Graham Hi, I reported them with coordinates here https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/349635 some time ago. As you, I love this theater, very good campaign and outstanding ground textures, except the square lakes
I also tried to look into the terrain editor, but I didn’t succeed in using it (maybe I only found an old version, don’t remember correctly).
Would be nice of course to get this fixed at some time for the long term stable release of 4.37 Baltic.Happy flying,

I did the original theater from scratch. Then exported 64 segment area for Tom. I used “AF hitiles (256x256px at the time) pack” replenished with some own custom textures like 1 tile lakes in various compositions (normaly small lake is composed by 4 corner tiles in F4).
I told to Tom he can do what he want with it. He reduced number of tiles and made new really high resolution textures for some tiles, messed with highs (Scandinavia elevations are really off with his update) and scattered some fake patterns on fileds, which did not exist in original terrain (my woods were all placed according real positions).Later I sent original files to RAM22/Cloud9, he continued something when Tom left, perhaps he made something with them before he passed away. It was on old forum, I have files backup in old laptop probably.
I guess these square sea tiles are the missing tiles from my original layout (he did not substitute).
You can make generic field there or put back some lake with new texture - I can try to find it and see what exactly was there, but… -
@Lukas Hi Lukas, thanks for the explanation, background story and congrats for your great work. I think I was flying the theater the time around when c9 updated it to newer BMS versions and loved it since then.
Regarding the squares: I would spent some time to fix it (with your explanation above that helps) and share the results, however, I’m completely new to this topic down to even not knowing which tool to use to do so, etc.
Is tile placement editor part of normal BMS install?Greetings

sorry, requires a set of tools that are hardly available anymore…
I’ll see if I have the time to fix this (not that hard) but I’m dedicating my time to 4.38

@MaxWaldorf Thank you Max, very much appreciated!

I am not sure about latest BMS ver., but Monsters Terrain Editor should work with current terrain.
Modding BMS terrain is quite easy, there is only one resolution texture (+ night and water/opacity), so it should be few clicks work.BTW Max if you are dedicated to 4.38 generaly, its nice, but if u are dedicated to Baltic for 4.38, I can provide some help about Baltic exact ccordinates and projection. Its not so hard to make Qgis exact square and projection for any datatype update (I saw few day ago, there was discussion about it somewhere, esp. projection).
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/311090Baltic is 64 seg. sinusoidal (so much better than original Korea, Balkan or Izrael) and center is near…so it is well projected. Just its center is not in exact Baltic square center as it was export.

@Lukas none of 4.37 terrain stuff applies to 4.38

@oakdesign
I simply dont belive. Even the new terrain is highmap + various other maps (satmap, water etc.), so exact proj + export square in QGIS can help update the terrain.
Well original idea was to make nice artifical terrain, later appearance phototexture over tiled terrain…perhaps tiles were completely abandoned later, but it is still DATA job.
